Lord… now I’m going to have to make a poll to see if polls are allowed on the front page.

Exactly what type of humor is it?

by Derek Stiles on Jan 18, 2012 3:25 PM EST up reply actions

It offends me that so many people got offended.

The guy who wrote it tried so hard to do a good job and everyone criticising him is being mean, and not funny at all. Its offensive that no one considered his feelings before saturating theyre hate in comments that just #whimpering crossed the line!

This is America 2012.

Everybody is offended by everything.
As a work of fiction it was very well written. And as a person who finds offensive things funny, I have no problem with it – other than it wasn’t really funny. But thats an individual opinion.

Why so serious?

It’s the internet, not the Encyclopedia Britannica. A bit of levity is to be expected and/or welcomed.

by mporta on Jan 18, 2012 2:44 PM EST reply actions

I have no idea why there was such a strong reaction to it.

I thought it was funny. I mean, it’s not as if JDR can never coach professional football again. If it were a situation where a player suffered a career ending injury, or something of that sort or if the joke got personal and went after the man’s family, then I could understand the harsh reaction.

Hell, if jdr did read this

Meh

Mr. Crow’s favorite.
If people have positive comments. Great.
If people have negative comments. Great also.
If people have neutral comments. Yippee.
It was front paged, it was kind of funny. I wasn’t going to comment on it. But now that I’m here again, I’ll shall reserve my always pleasing “Meh” about the whole situation.

there is also a fine line between ‘offensive and funny’ and ‘offensive and not funny’. Don Rickles to this day is offensive and funny. Lampanelli is offensive and not funny.

I disagree

I think there is often a very thin line between mean and funny. The two are often tied together. The phrase “make fun of someone” kind of says it all. It denotes “meaniness” yet uses the term “make fun.” Why do you spose that is?

by JohnnyBiceps on Jan 18, 2012 3:51 PM EST up reply actions

Because you have fun at thier expense.

It’s not to denote that making fun of someone is funny, though occasionally the two go hand in hand.

by TmannZOU on Jan 18, 2012 7:52 PM EST up reply actions

Well, the roasts are usually really contrived,

jokes that are reused between every roast, and aren’t written by the comedian who uses the material. So often times it is someone who is being paid to be there because they have an obscure connection with the person being roasted, and reads a writer’s script. Not to mention that the person being roasted gets to know what is going to be said prior to the roast.

nothing about that is really funny to me.

My high school made it in to the news paper because te day after the jets took advantage of us, we played jdr’s daughters high school in volleyball. Agreed, Brian

Jokes are just fine. Especially if they are actually funny and aren’t at someone else’s expense. This was a poor attempt at humour, and people were offended. It’s Alfie’s site and it’s certainly his right to post this… although I cannot actually see why he would insist on doing so.

Having said that, I personally visit this site regularly to read Jags football related news. If BCC is going to move into prominently placing humour (espeically this sort) on the front page instead of football news, I will just visit less often. Not a great loss, I know… but that’s my opinion on the matter.

Listen, I understand you may have been offended.

But show me a SB nation site which doesn’t occasionally have a joke on the front page, and I will show you one with low traffic and/or low levels of fun.

This isn’t the first time a) a joke has been FP’ed on BCC b) someone on the site was offended.

This is rediculous

People didn’t play the joke card when tiquan came out with the lockeroom joke, and it was just as tasteless, hysterical, an not even as well written. People are probably hating because they thought it was true, which is the real joke. Maybe a joke disclaimer would be enough to satisfy the people who got an issue.

There shouldnt even need to be a follow up like this. I find it funny that so many people are saying can or should. I liked jdr but the guy ruined us for almost 10 years…i think the reminder of diassapointing seasons should be enough to counter balance one little fan post that got fp’d on a fan blog.
