Jaguars Will Interview Brian Schottenheimer, According To Report

Once again, the Jacksonville Jaguars are wasting no time in interviewing possible head coaching candidates. According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, the Jaguars will be interviewing New York Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, and the interview could be as early as this week.

Schottenheimer, the son of long time NFL coach Marty Shottenheimer, has been the offensive coordinator for the New York Jets since 2006. Prior to taking that position he was a quarterbacks coach for the San Diego Chargers from 2002-2005 under his father and the quarterback coach for the Washington Redskins in 2002. Prior to that, he had work as an offensive assistant in college at schools like USC and Syracuse.

From a Jets fan:

Please hire Brian Schottenheimer. He is such a great coach and we want to share his greatness with the rest of the league.

by Timmaht on Jan 2, 2012 8:38 PM EST up reply actions

If you love a low octane passing offense, he's you guy.

I mean imagine the blocking schemes he can set up MJD in while going shotgun and running all your WRs on 5 yard routes. So great!

by Timmaht on Jan 2, 2012 8:40 PM EST up reply actions

From a Jags fan who lives in NY

signing him to a lifetime contract extension where he cannot be fired without consenting would be the best way for the Jets to share his greatness with the rest of the league.

I'm pretty sure this has already happened behind closed doors...

He’s got some private stash footie vids of Rex or something.

by Timmaht on Jan 2, 2012 8:44 PM EST up reply actions

I know

it is kind of sad. I dislike the Jets but being a Jags fan that has been stuck with an incompetent OC, I feel the pain of having Schott as your OC

eh maybe….if there aren’t any other good choices. Id’ be interested in finding out how much of the offensive ineptitude with the NYJ was his fault,

Why? How has the Jets offense improved in his 6 years as OC? How is he in developing QBs?

by tiquanunderwear on Jan 2, 2012 3:49 PM EST up reply actions

Can't teach them but you can make them more probably by:

Going empty backfield on 2nd, 3rd, and 4th and short, shotgun on 1st down, and calling up 67 passing plays in a game.

by Timmaht on Jan 2, 2012 8:42 PM EST up reply actions

I knew he was joking. I just wanted to see what he would say lol

if his name weren’t Schottenheimer?

Probably

He was listed as one of the up an coming coaches at the beginning of the season

This is such a difficult call

I am a teacher. I have known a hundred incredible teachers and assistant principals who would suck at being the principal. I’m not sure we will know by any coach’s OC or DC track record if he will be good at HC. Hopefully, Genie knows what it takes. I will say that I like the idea of someone coming in who is very connected to other great coaches. It seems the ability to hire and manage other great coaches is really all you need to be a successful HC. My first question to HC candidates — who are you bringing along?

by CheapSeat on Jan 2, 2012 3:18 PM EST reply actions   1 recs

Thats exactly what it takes

and its something I think alot of people don’t realize

B Schott is bad news

Jets would need to throw in a first round pick and a conditional second for me to consider making this hire should it come to be he is the candidate chosen

he seems like the kind of guy that is exciting our fanbase…

Look at all of the positive comments above.

How about we give you Sanchez with him!

Obviously, he’s going to develop him into a great QB, just give him another 10 years.

by Timmaht on Jan 2, 2012 8:45 PM EST up reply actions   1 recs

I'm so sorry guys.

But I hope you do pick him up…seems like the only way we’ll be rid of him.

Just say Schefter reported Jags also requested and were granted permission to interview Pats OC Bill O'Brien

O'Brien

I don’t trust any coordinators coming from the Pats. History shows that the magic is in Belichek and Brady. The coordinators are interchangeable and none of them have been successful.

But what if Brian brought Marty in too as his OC we could very well use his dads experience…..just a thought.

by orecic76 on Jan 3, 2012 6:51 AM EST via mobile reply actions

I would want neither guy anywhere near this team

What has Marty done as a HC?! What has his son done as an OC?! There are better poeple out there to be had for this team!!

He is talking about them in reverse

The elder Schottenheimer was a very good OC and always had good Offenses but idk how the younger Schottenheimer would be as a HC.

by Sylvester.The.Jaguar.fan on Jan 3, 2012 3:37 PM EST up reply actions

I know

but neither has really shown anything great in their most recent jobs in the NFL. I think papa Schott should just call it quits from the NFL and Brian Schott does not seem to me like a worthy candidtae for a HC position

No wonder Rex Ryan didn't fire him

He’s expecting him to be hired off his staff instead.

Okay, somebody in the Big East has made this necessary. "BC" in my nickname references the icon. I AM NOT A BOSTON COLLEGE FAN.

by VoiceOfBC on Jan 3, 2012 9:23 AM EST reply actions

still would not be reason to fire this pitiful exuse for an OC
