Jaguars Will Interview Mike McCoy, According To Report
Add another offensive coordinator to the list of head coaching candidates for the Jacksonville Jaguars, as the team has requested permission to interview Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy according to a report.
ESPN also reported the #Jaguars will interview Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy. So that's five offensive coordinators so far.
— Tania Ganguli (@taniaganguli) January 2, 2012
McCoy will be the fifth offensive coordinator the Jaguars will interview in the quest to find a new head coach. It's clear the team is going to look for an offensive minded head coach to work with quarterback Blaine Gabbert. McCoy played quarterback in college at Long Beach and at Utah. He also played a bit in the CFL. McCoy has been an offensive assistant under John Fox since the 2000 season with the Carolina Panthers. During his tenure with the Panthers, McCoy served as the wide receivers coach, quarterbacks coach, passing game coordinator, and was hired as the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach of the Broncos in 2009.

Yeah I guess Gene can keep a secret better for who he’ll pick in the draft than who he’ll hire as coach.

Of course how could we not have seen it before
Gene Smith’s plan
1. Hire Tebow’s OC
2. ? (Trade Gabbert for Tebow)
3. Championship

Bronco fan here. IMHO McCoy doesn't like Tebow as his starter.
So wouldn’t expect a deal if McCoy is hired.

Can you find the 'W' in this mess? Tebow can.
Good, so you will be stuck with Tim!

stuck in the playoffs. :)
we’ve not lost faith. We knew he’d come down eventually as all young QBs do.
If we can actually go into the offseason and TC with him as the clear cut starter he will improve.

we're hoping the same thing for Gabbert lol
Take stock in your lives, but leave your livestock alone
Not really sure what about his track record indicates he would be a good HC
one thing I can say though is that it is kind of obvious that this team is looking to bring an offensive mind in to turn this offensive unit around.

I wonder what Tebow would have said
in the Houston game instead of Gabbert when he was run out of bounds by Cushing. “Woah there, Jesus, Mary, and Joseph!”?

Luck alert
Andrew Luck is wack. They have so many playmakers and he is doing nothing. Standfords best player is their RB. Watch the game and you will see why Andrew Luck is not a good prospect.
Gee, u may be right. We’d better evaluate him on this one game and not his history. Good call.

aNDREW lUCK SUCKS BRO
Hes ryan leaf. Im watching him and he sucks. Their offense is sweet and does everything for him. All they do is keep running it then run play action and Luck has easy throws. Credit Standfords OC, their RB, their WR and TE, there 2 top 20 OL prospects but dont credit that wack QB. Hes a 4th round pick in my eyes and I know what im talking about.
by childintime12 on Jan 2, 2012 9:18 PM EST up reply actions
Dude, at the very, very least...
He is more mature than Ryan Leaf. He already has his degree (from Stanford, which is no slouch) and doesn’t have the hard partying frat boy reputation Leaf had coming out. If he doesn’t make it big, it won’t be because of lack of brains and maturity, as was the case with Leaf.
Fidelis Ad Mortem
Just wait
Standford is only good because they have everything around the QB. Many QBs could succeed there. Luck has done nothing in this game. He will do nothing in the pros. He has no talent and he has terrible pocket presence. Luckily they have probably the best Oline in the country.

If you think Luck is good
Then you dont know as much as I do. I dont see anything from him. Stanford is just a very good team that doesnt even need him.

You're acting like....
this is the first time you’ve seen Luck play. You’re an irrational ass clown. Back on topic…
Interesting note on McCoy. Delhomme was a solid, respectable QB under McCoy’s coaching. Then, when McCoy left, that’s when Delhomme had his steep and embarrassing decline.
IIve watched Luck play 3 times this year
He was awful against Oregon. He tried as hard as he could to blow the Nortre Dame game and he has done nothing impressive here tonight. Just another college QB. 4th round draft grade. Hes alex smith at best. He will be good in 6 years. I hope the Colts get that bum. Learn how to scout a player you idiots.

I don't think Luck will be the all world QB that everyone thinks
but to say he is wack is not accurate at all. Its just… wack.

Stanford leads NCAA with TD drives of 10 plays or more
Luck is a dink and dunk and their RB does all the work.

We have very different opinions on what a HC does.
I don’t want to be stuck with another great coordinator such as Turner or Phillips. Some people aren’t meant to lead.
On that same token, though...
being an OC doesn’t preclude you from being a good HC. I’m with you on it not having to be an “offensive minded” guy, but let’s just see how it plays out.
IIRC
Mike McCarthy, the season prior to being made Green Bay’s HC, was in charge of the last ranked offense in SF. I’m not saying go after Dirk (I say good riddance). I am saying that we can’t exactly judge correctly from our perspectives either way. Best left to Khan and Gene. No matter who the coach is, I’m going to be excited and optimistic.
by BassPlaysDave on Jan 3, 2012 1:20 PM EST via iPhone app up reply actions
I can only speculate
but I think they want an offensive minded HC becuase it is that side of the ball that needs to most work. they figure that if they bring in a good offensiive minded HC< he will bring in a good staff of coaches for the offense which in turn will really help turn this offensive unit into a good one.

So, are we going to interview every mediocre coordinator in the league?
Just hire Jay Gruden. Problem solved.
Okay, somebody in the Big East has made this necessary. "BC" in my nickname references the icon. I AM NOT A BOSTON COLLEGE FAN.
do interviewss hurt?!
a mediocore coordinator could be a fantastic head coach. it requires a different skill set. While I do agree that in the caseof this Jaguar team I would like the coordinator who does get hired to have a very good offensive mind, but maybe a mediocore coordinator gets the HC job, brings in a guy to be his OC who is in fact a brilliant offensive mind who was not an OC but rather a QB coach or O-Line coach, and therefore could not fully utilize the offensive genius contained within.

They might hurt. What if the coordinator would’ve been a great head coach, but he just wasn’t ready. Then the stress of the interview could cripple his confidence and ruin his chance of ever becoming a great head coach. It would be a devastating case of coach-Carr-itis.
this is one of the funniest things i have ever read
that is just ridiculous if you ask me.

If the stress of the interview cripples his confidence
Then he is not a HC

Tony Boselli will be the new head coach, with Mark Brunell as the offensive coordinator, and Tony Brackens as the defensive coordinator.
