If you could sign only 2 free agents and 1 draft pick this year who would they be?
If you could have your wish granted and have 2 free agents be Jaguars next year as well as your pick of 1st round draft picks (within reason), who would those 3 players be?
I'll go first. I would love to see Mario Williams, Stevie Johnson and Quinton Coples
I'm not too concerned with Mario Williams injury and I think putting him back at DE along with Coples on the other side would make us one of the best defenses in the league.
Stevie Johnson is young and highly skilled. I'm not worried about his antics. His personality is exactly what we need here in Jacksonville.

I believe
after the marijuana deal, the chances of Dre being a Jaguar are pretty much up in smoke.
Mario Williams, Marques Colston and Quinton Coples
Actually really torn about the draft pick selection, if Coples is as really good as he is showing right now in the Senior Bowl practices then I would love to have him here. If he is the slow, Derrick Harvey looking DE that I seen this year during UNC games then I rather have Jonathan Martin
Interesting concept
FA: Stevie Johnson and Mincey(I think he has to count as a FA even though it would be a resigning of one of our own. this is also contingent on him taking a reasonable offer. Otherwise this becomes Mario Williams)
Draft: Coples(as of right now, based on what I am hearing about him at the senior bowl, I am on the bandwagon right now. Things might change quickly and I will go back to believing he will be a bust as a 4-3 DE. Should that happen, I would take the better prospect of Reiff and Martin who as of now I think is Martin)

THESE WOULD BE MINE ASWELL. HOPING OUR OLINE CAN IMPROVE FROM LAST YR THOUGH. IF THEY COULDNT IT WOULD BE DIFFERENT.
Mario Williams, Vincent Jackson, and Kirkpatrick
the draft pick is the hardest for me to decide. This year even more then normal it seems like there is a significant drop-off after the first 4 or 5 picks.

Cant see Gene picking Dre..
I like Avril, but wonder how much of his stats were bolstered by coverage on the other great Detroit Lineman.
What does everyone think of wide receiver Gerell Robinson from Arizona State? John osher on jaguars.com spoke with Tory holt and he said that Gerell Robinson out of all the receivers stuck out to him the most and could get in and out of his breaks and has great hands
as a late round guy
he intrigues me. lot o develoment needed by him

pick up: Colston, Mario.. MANNINGHAM, then draft Mercilus
and have a ton left for other FA’s
Oops...Sorry, he ain't drew!
thought he meant Williams and Manningham. I will attempt to work on my reading skills.

MY 3 CHOICES
Mario " The Beast " Williams , Dwayne " Big Daddy " Bowe and Quentin " The Next Freak " Coples ………..These 3 guys would make us contenders for several years to come !

For 9.4 million?
That’s highly unprobable.
That's the word.
Unprobable isn’t even a word but unprobably is. That’s weird but improbable is the correct word to be used in this instance.
Honestly...
I said that without knowing what their cap situation is, so if they have the room to sign him, maybe they will. All I knew for certain was that the franchise tag for WR’s this year is 9.4 million and I’m not sure if there are any in this free agent class that’s worth that kind of money.
Questions...
about his effort is enough to not want him being a Jaguar. There is no room for that type of attitude on this team.
SAME
My semtiments exactly. Colpes, Mario, and Johnson or Jackson, plus some other good draftpicks would make us a beast
Ignoring the ridiculous price tag...
Matt Flynn, Mario Williams and… Rookie WR. Maybe Kendall Wright in the 2nd round. Obviously Blackmon if he’s available, but I’m not putting too many eggs in that basket right now.
I know I’m gonna get some junk for Flynn, but I really believe he’s legit.

31-44, 480 yards, 6 TDs 1 INT
There are QBs starting in the league couldn’t do that in 7-on-7 drills, much less a real game.

and when he is on a team
without a pro-bowl TE and arguably the best WR group in the entire NFL?

you are going to get junk for Flynn
I know the arguing has been going on ad nauseum about Gabbert, but you got to realize he CAN very well become a good QB. If we were in January 2013 and Gabbert put up another rookie season this coming year than sure it pays to throw substantial $ at a Flynn-like QB but it is just not fiscally responsible IMO for the Jaguar organization to spend money on a Flynn right now with Gabbert having had only his rookie season to show anything.

Yeah, that too..
This is supposed to be a dream scenario type thing, right? It won’t happen, but I’d be glad to have the guy in “fantasy world.”
I hadn’t considered that Peyton might be available though…

Were you this high on Flynn when he was sitting around undrafted until the 7th round in '08?
Were you beating the draft Flynn drum then, or is this a knee jerk reaction to seeing one good game? I hope Flynn actually does go somewhere and start, so we can see how ridiculous it is that he’s the flavor of the week.
Fidelis Ad Mortem
Actually, it was after watching him fill in for a few games last year.
He got in for two games and didn’t light the place up, but he showed that he had a legitimate NFL arm. He lost in both games, but he came out of the NE game with a 100 passer rating.
I thought he was legit then.

Brian, it’s going be Gabbert for 16 games barring injury. Get the hell over it already.
You defended the hell out of Garrard and thought he was good, yet you bury a damn rookie after 14 games. Stop acting like a damn clown. You just look like a bitter jerk off.
by Alfie Crow on Jan 26, 2012 10:16 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
I dont understand why
he isnt entitled to his opinion. Just because it doesnt correspond to yours or whoevers doesnt make him a jerk off. Youre the one who needs to get a grip and allow people to express their own opinion whether it equates to yours or not.
There are...
two sides to this. While I agree with you that we should have the right to express our opinion without being personally attacked for it, there should come a point where you express yourself to the point of over doing it. Brian has been very avid in his stance that he thinks Blaine will be a failure and while Alfie could’ve found a better way to express his sentiment towards this, Brian has (to me) reached the point of beating the drum a little too loudly. What I got from him suggesting that the team bring in Flynn is that he should come and be Blaine’s replacement. If he would’ve made it clear that he wanted Matt to come in and be competition, his response would’ve probably been received in a more positive light. I too, would like to see the team bring someone in to compete for the position and Flynn would be a great option to do so, but not to bring him to replace Gabbert without giving Blaine a chance keep his position as the starter. (In the Forest Gump voice) That’s all I have to say about that.
Just curious
If someone called you a bitter jerkoff.. would they be banned?
I think that is the point they are trying to make…
Personal?
He looks like a bitter jerk off. It’s not personal, it’s the truth. Brian’s been throwing his little fit about how Gabbert’s going to suck prior to and immediately after the draft for months. It’s gotten to the point where it’s borderline trolling, because unless he’s completely dense, Matt Flynn is completely unrealistic.
That Matt Flynn idea
is a bit of a joke. I always gave Brian a bit of credit for taking a stand and keeping his view on something that still has a chance of being true (Gabbert bust), regardless of how annoying it gets to see the Blaine-bashing so consistently. But, to defend that stance to the point of talking about giving Flynn the kind of contract he will want…c’mon now.
Yes, credit to Brian for making his mind up predraft and refusing to accept Blaine could get better.
Bravo!

For the last time...
I do believe that he can AND WILL get better.
The question is: Will “better” be good enough? Considering how he did last year, I’m not convinced that’s the case.
Besides, no one actually expects the Jags to offer Flynn a contract, it’s an “in a perfect world” situation.

Chill out. It's just a "fantasy" signing.
I don’t for a second think the Jags will even be casually involved in getting Flynn, but QB is the most important position on the field, and Flynn is a young guy with a lot of potential and a starter.
Gabbert will very likely be the QB next year, it doesn’t mean that there’s no possible improvements to be made at the position, and if you wouldn’t be happy with Flynn or Peyton Manning at QB, then I’m not the one who’s being unreasonable.

Of course I do.
I’d love for him to tear it up. I would take all the shit in the world for dissing him if he turns out to be a top-flight quarterback.

Bowe, Meachem, Coples
WR coprs instantly one of the better in the NFL and pass rush one step better. I might get crazy and switch Meachem for Brent Grimes or (I hate to say it) Cortland Finnegan
Hmmm
Potential free agents or no?
If so I’d say Peyton Manning, Vincent Jackson, and Martin.
If our D was good last year lets give Gabbert someone to learn behind, who better than manning, give manning a deep threat, and shore up the line with a solid RT.
Also if manning came good chance to get wayne cheaper. Both I think would love to beat the colts twice a yr.
Dammit just go out there and play to win and I'll be here to cheer!!!!

I wonder why the people who listed
Peyton Manning and Drew Brees didnt get all the flack that Brian got. Once again, just because his opinion isnt the same as yours doesnt mean he should be blasted. This sight should be one to respect all opinions whether you agree or not.

Manning and Brees...
are proven and Flynn is a HUGE question mark. That’s probably one reason why.
Manning and Brees are also in their mid 30's...
Flynn is 26. I’ll take the young guy.

Doesn't change the fact...
that he’s still unproven. I’d personally take a guranteed 2-3 years of great QB play against years of uncertainty.

I want...
Super Mario, Reggie Wayne, Mo Claiborne.
All 3 are difference makers. I know Reggie is 33, but he can still play, and he catches EVERYTHING. He would be an excellent possesion guy to finish his career.

QB is the most important position right?
by CheapSeat on Jan 27, 2012 1:56 AM EST reply actions 1 recs
I know he's not a premium position player like a LT would be
But I think I might draft OG David DeCastro. We need the depth, and Meester isn’t going to be around forever. He looks like the new Brian Waters to me. He’s could be a great LG in our system, and either Uche or Rackley could play center. I think the preference would be to move Rackley inside because of their skill sets, even if Uche has been cultivated for the position for a while now.
My FA’s would be Mario Williams and Vincent Jackson.
I'd like DeCastro too
I saw one scout rated him the best guard he’s ever scouted. Compared him to a young Steve Hutchinson.
However, when I watched him in the bowl game he was one cog of a totally dominant line and fell over a lot, so I’m not sure how to factor in those things. Positives are he pulls and run blocks really well and energetically plays through to the whistle… He would also likely be BPA apart from maybe Richardson at 7th pick.
O-Line: Monroe———DeCastro———-Rackley———-Uche———Britton
Haslam———-Spitz——————-Estes————Spitz———Bradfield
My FAs: Colston, Mario Williams
What could of happened; did.
I'm thinking Bowe, Mario Williams and Riley Reiff...
I know second round is not an option, but Sanu/Wright or McNutt in the second. Or Marvin Jones.
