Cornerback: Brandon Carr, William Middleton

Special Teams:

3

Kicker: Josh Scobee

Punter: Spencer Lanning

Long Snapper: Jeremy Cain

I know it's a lot of free agents, but it puts us close to the cap, and trading Mike Thomas, not resiging Mathis or Mincey, freed up more cap space. This is a great set of free agents, and a great draft in my opinion.

We now have a top receiving unit,

and at DE, Roth starts, but rotates with Curry, Chick, and Lane.

i would not bet rid of my young wr’s thomas dillard and taylor price Lee Evans i would pass on though i would go after V Jax for my number 1 wr i would keep Mincy as well. GO JAGS

mincey asks for too much

and evans is a veteran deep thrreat, him and wayne can both help the younger guys at receiver, and on the whole team.

Yeah, Evans looked fantastic when he got the TD that wouldve sent them to the Super Bowl slapped out of his weak baby hands.

By a backup who has been cut twice, was signed in November, and was beaten on the play.

Pass on Evans.

Technically I think

and is an established player. With Evans you know what your getting pretty much.

I would

Evans has peaked and spent most of this year injured. His best football is behind him. Dillard, there’s potential there. That’s kind of the problem with the Jaguars. Too much untapped potential on the team.

I think that was Gene's thought process...

he was hoping for M80 and Marcedes to have a good year and just one of his young guys to break out. I get it, but it just didn’t work out.

by CheapSeat on Jan 27, 2012 10:45 AM EST up reply actions

i agree wayne can help our young wr’s i dont think evans can bring the same and i am not saying that because of his dropped catch againts the pats but he only had a few catches with the ravens. as for mincy why trade away a young de for a vet i say sign avril and mincy and keep the rotation we had before i love kampman but i think he is done.

by Jag4ever on Jan 26, 2012 6:47 PM EST up reply actions

What's the point of getting Wayne

to help the young WR’s if you’re going to release or trade nearly all of the young WR’s ?

by pksiv on Jan 27, 2012 8:58 AM EST up reply actions

This is my opinion

I want D Bowe and Colston resign mincey. I love riley reiff or quietin coples in the first round. Im not that huge on mario williams like some people are. Also we need some speed on ofeense what round is Chris Rainey projected to go in and who are some of the fastest people in this years draft .

by caneman4 on Jan 26, 2012 5:15 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Depends on how the contract is written

If we signed Wayne, I’d plan on getting 2 years out of him and then cutting him (unless he was performing at an extremely high level). So you write the contract for 3 years, and make the 3rd year worth more.

In this example, you’d pay him something like 8 mil up front, second year at 6 mil, 3rd year is worth 10 mil. It seems like most contracts for aging players are written that way. If they’re still playing at a high level, you pay them. If they’re not worth it after the second year, you ask them to restructure the contract or just cut bait and walk away.

by mab0270 on Jan 27, 2012 11:16 AM EST up reply actions

NOPE

saty far away from Wayne. That money for a 33 year old is just ridiculous. I don’t know about Lee Evans either. I am also most definitely opposed to throwing big money at a CB.

As for the draft, I think there will be a better WR let alone a better player to take with the first second round selection. I also do not love the last 3 picks in the draft.

but what if they are all reaches? then I am not so sure they are great picks. I would rather look to fill similar positions with guys like Michael Egnew in the 4th, Chris Rainey in the 5th and Micah Pellerin in the 6th.

BAP and the last 3 rounds would certainly be different

I think both of your ULL guys will be gone byt the picks you have them at. I am not all that high on them and figure they will be severely overdrafted. As for Rainey, I am not really sure I care much when he can give you what he can from a late round spot. He is a better faster version of Sproles.

doesn't make spending that kind of money on him any more worth it

this team does not need to throw 7+ million a year at a guy who is already 33 and on the downside of his career.

I would regret giving that money to Holt

This team tried to veteran among youth experiment and it never turned out so great. Let u rebuild this WR group with youth and be fiscally responsible with signing free agents. just becuase we have the money, does not mean to throw 7 million a year at a 33 year old on the decline!!

Mike Thomas

Isn’t worth a 2nd round pick. But I do think that’s a desirable roster sans Wayne. He’s just too old.

by KillJag on Jan 26, 2012 6:36 PM EST via mobile reply actions

nix that

I didn’t see that our third was involved as well. That sounds a little more feasible

by KillJag on Jan 26, 2012 6:38 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

I like it but I have a few notes

Avril will be VERY hard to get. Lions want him back.
I just don’t see 4 FA WRs (2 or maybe 3, but that’s also unlikely). I see 2 FAs + 2 via draft (2nd and 4th round)
Also, Jags must keep cap space for next year, when players like Daryl Smith, Knighton, Derek Cox , Jennings and Britton will be FAs…

Draft I like the 1st pick (but I still want a downtrade if Claiborne isn’t there, and then pick Jeffery/Mercilus/Konz/Barron).
Would draft Sanu or Wright with the 2nd over Quick.
I would stay in the 3rd and pick Josh Norman
4th round give me Michael Egnew or A. J. Jenkins over Pead

Life without knowledge is death in disguise

I think

that Avril being from JAX, no income tax, and better weather, may sway him to come here. I know, but I thought a rebuilt receiving unit, for the most part, would be best. I think Britton can walk, but I do believe there will be enough to sign those players. I think Sanu is a top 25 pick now, and Wright will be taken in the 1st as well. And I like Pead, and I feel Egnew is gone.

Estes is the guy they are grooming to be the next Center

People don’t want to accept that because they don’t see him on the field but the reality is you hardly ever see a center unless he is starting. Uche is good where he is and once he gets a RT thats not a turnstile to play next to him, he could be a pro bowler.

Be realistic with Britton...

When he played did he perfrom to expectations? He’s out often so his availability has been an issue. Are his back problems over? I think he’s a backup for now.

Not really

You still only have their rookie season to go on, with that logic, the Jags should go ahead and get rid of Gabbert since they “know what they have” as you say.

We didn't go after Lee Evans last year that hard why would we sign him this offseason?

Im not 100% on the Free Agency other than Cliff Avril really stands out…I agree with the need for a veteran WR but Reggie Wayne is what 35 years old and Im not 100% sure he has 3 years left in him…Its easy to say he is still as good as ever when Peyton Manning is throwing to him, We don’t have Peyton Manning.

Sproles got way more touches than that

And I would never draft a guy in the 4th to be a 3rd string guy. 4th rounders should be drafted to have a chance at starting or a solid back up career. We already have two RBs.

Sproles as in the type of back

his style of play. Not how NO uses him. I don’t care, when you have the best backs in the league, another one doesn’t hurt, after the first 3 picks, were free to adress depth. After this season, we can do that every round if we want. With Pead we go 60/30/10

We don't need to take carries away from MJD or Jennings

We need depth at many other positions. RB is the position we have arguably the best depth at. Address OL with that pick or defense.

QB: Chris Redman
WR: 1. Colston, Bowe, or vjax.

2. Pierre Garcon, stevie johnson or Harry Douglas
DE: Cliff Avril

Draft:
1. CB Claiborne, kirkpatrick, or Jenkins (in that order)

3. WR Quick or best C or best G

5. Best Available
6. Punter

Still don't see the point in getting Chris Redman

Yeah there’s the whole “he’ll learn the system from the old guy” thing, but without a veteran backup last year, we were forced to start Gabbert earlier than was good for him.
I’d like to have at least a semi-competent QB backing up Gabbert in case Blaine gets hurt or something.

1. Opinion on the rest?
2. Redman is familiar with Brat and Mularkey…he knows the system that’ll be implemented most likely. He’s better then McCown as well. While Gabbert is learning the system, and he already knowing the system, he can help Gabbert learn it. He can guide him. Redman may also be able to outplay Gabbert, although Gabbert will start anyway.
