Is signing Peyton Manning a possibility?

While listening to the Pete Prisco radio show this evening, he mentioned the possibility of picking of Peyton Manning and how he could be the key piece of our Super Bowl bid. Plus, Shad Khan has all the money in the world to sign him. At first, I was like ,"nope, Gabbert's our guy," but if Gabbert could sit and learn behind Manning for 2 years then he could seriously become a way better player.

If we then pick up Mario Williams or Cliff Avril and then get Reggie Wayne or Robert Meacham in free agency, or even pick up a speedster like Kendall Wright in the draft, then I think we're a serious playoff team will no other glaring holes.

Do you like the idea of signing Manning?

All the money in the world?

There’s a salary cap, and we can’t spend over it?

Anyone interested in making money easy and quick on the interne, let me know through twitter or facebook(preferably facebook).

Were apx 34 million under the cap. So that is not an issue. And since Khan on Jan 17 said we were going to spend up to it, we hopefully will be getting some good free agent. Manning in my opinion isn’t worth it. Plus Gene Smith would be admitting he made a mistake with Gabbert. Does anyone see him doing that?

Khan...

just said that to excite people. He can’t just spend up to the cap like that, if you think about it from a realistic standpoint. There will be following offseasons where we have to sign our own players, draft picks and any potential free agents.

Unless I misunderstood the collective bargaining agreement, come 2013 we are required to spend at least 89% of our cap space.

I think...

you’re right but that doesn’t require us to spend up to that 89% this year. I’m sure Gene has weighed all the factors but the last thing I’d like to see happen is us lose one of our important players that the team has developed just because of salary cap issues.

I genuinely think we could spend our money better

But if we did id be more than happy. I dont think Manning is unsigned long enough to see us build the offense he wants, but who knows.

He'll retire rather than play for someone else is what I'm hearing

He’d love our wide receivers.
Maybe we could make him look real bad for a year and ruin his legacy as weird revenge

What could of happened; did.

Manning will play for someone else if he is healthy.......

According to Chris Mortenson, Manning is throwing and working out like crazy… Why would he do this if he is ready to retire. I’m sure he knows his time in Indy is over, so for him to continue working out shows he still wants to play.

If I were the Jags, and he is availbale to play next year, I sign this guy in a heartbeat! You will not win the Super Bowl without a franchise QB, and he is that. The Jags had a tremendous def last year and MJD, put in Manning and you have all the ingredients for a playoff team……

I would sign him and Wayne, and I would give up the 1st round pick for Mike Wallace…… The Steelers will tender him, but any serious offer to him will not be able to be matched by the Steelers, they are $25 million over right now. And if the Jags are going to draft Blackmon at 7 (if available), you don’t think giving up that pick for Wallace isn’t a better football decision. You know what you are getting with Wallace, he has improved every year and he is entering his prime.

Signing those three would not allow opposing defenses to crowd the line giving MJD tons of running room. Having Wallace will keep safeties deep, allowing the underneath for Lewis, and Wayne and Panning together…..

You let Gabbert learn behind Manning, giving you a future franchise QB in waiting, while giving yourself a tremendous opportunity to win the division now.

You put that offense with their def, and Josh!

Take the tarps off, the stadium will be full for every game!
