Eight Jaguars named to the ESPN All-AFC South Team
Paul Kuharsky of ESPN has spent the last few days putting together his list of player for the All-AFC South team and with his release of the defense and special teams today, the team is final. The Jaguars have the second most players on the list with eight behind the Texans who finished with ten players. There were six Titans and three Colts that made the team.
On the list are RB Maurice Jones-Drew, FB Greg Jones and G Uche Nwaneri on offense, LB Daryl Smith, LB Paul Posluszny and S Dwight Lowery on defense, and ST Kassim Osgood and KR Deji Karim on special teams.
While the first five seem like fair and almost obvious selections, the last three are all questionable at best, laughable at worst. While Lowery was a valuable piece in the remodel of the Jaguars defense, Danieal Manning had an arguably greater impact on the Texans defense as they made a similar transformation defensively and would have received the nod from me.
Kassim Osgood earned the nod at special teamer despite the Jaguars selecting Montell Owens as their special teams representative and him earning a place in last Sunday's Pro Bowl for the second consecutive year. And lastly, Deji Karim earned a spot as the AFC South's kick returner despite having such a bad season that he was benched for several games and likely won't be with the team in 2012. Still, he did have the division's best kick return average.

only made it to
2 games this year so idk much about lowery’s play this year. obviously he had to have atleast been servicable. is he fast, physical, or decisive? what about his ball and coverage skills? its hard to see the defensive backfield on TV.
He is good, but I agree Manning had a better year.

I don't think so...
…Lowery was always there to deliver a big hit, or knock the ball down.

Lowery
is the better player. He had just as many INT"S, but he also had significantly more pass broken up than Manning. Lowery also has a sack, and fewer missed tackles, all while being a last min trade requiring a little time to learn a new position and not to mention he was dealing with an injury.
deji is fookin awesome?
im serious, why are you guys haters on a vital piece of our team?
I think Deji would be better if he was given 3-5 carries max per game
But I don’t see him sticking next year. With his speed, someone will pick him up.

Help me out....
Granted I am shocked that Deji led the division in KR average, but if that is the case, then why would we not consider him valuable? One question I have is how that average is figured. Does a guy get credit for 20 yards by taking a knee, or does it only consider plays that he actually runs the ball? I ask because if the average is calculated only on actual plays where the ball is run, then bad judgement could lead to a high average (like 18 yards), where the guy would have had 20 yards if he stayed in the endzone. I hope that made sense, but I am curious because I do not remember Deji breaking a bunch of runs off!
Thanks....
That being said…..I did not realize Deji had done so well. Interesting. Maybe he should be given another chance!
he better hope no one outshines him in kickoffs in preseason
When’s the last time we kad a kickoff returned for a TD?

not sure I agree with your statement about Osgood
don’t know what your criteria was.
he had one more ST tackle than Owens (not significant).
seemed he was double-teamed a lot as a gunner but still had a few downings near the goal line.
didn’t see if one or the other caused more fumbles.
it’s nice the Jags have two who are so good it makes for an interesting argument about who is better, though.

I'm fine with Lowery
Montell should get the nod over Osgood. And Deji as KR, well I would have probably left that spot vacant.

I have a hard time with anyone who was a healthy scratch for several games being on any All Division team
I guess Kuharsky ran out of steam. Hell, again, judging by the numbers, Danieal Manning should have gotten the nod! Dude got screwed twice.
