NFL Coaching Searches with a Fancy Chart

There are five teams without a coach, but they're all looking. The Jaguars are one of those teams. This is a look at the candidates that each team has reportedly shown interest in as of today in fancy chart form, because everybody loves fancy charts.

Not surprised

O’Brien would rather go to PSU than an NFL team to be HC. Go figure! Especially when that nfl team is the Jaguars. I doubt money was an issue. I bet he looked at this roster here and said “There’s no way I can win with this team”.

No...

I think he just really likes Penn State

Yeah...no way to win with this team.

We were an average passing attack away from challenging for the division. Go to the T-U message board with that “no way we can win” garbage.

Good Luck Chiefs

If you pick Del Rio, your gonna need it. Be smart pick Crennel.

I hadn't heard that they were considering JDR

Good for him for even getting a look. He seemed to have stagnated here. Maybe a new situation would get him out of bed in the morning.

by CheapSeat on Jan 6, 2012 9:18 AM EST up reply actions

I also did nto hear about JDR and KC

not sure why they wouldl even consider him over Crennel for HC. Maybe as DC, JDR ould be a very nice addition.

Cowher?.......Cowher?......

Anyone? No. OK. Bueller?….Bueller?…Anyone?

by GAJAGFAN on Jan 6, 2012 8:17 AM EST reply actions

Is anyone thinking Dungy? No one is mentioning him, nor has there been any quotes from him denying interest, or if he is even interested.

Just feel at the end of the day, the hire will be no one that anyone is talking about. Osher hinted at a big name in the Ozone the other day, plus only these guys on the charts are current coaches, which are the only names that have to be asked permission.
Gene Frenette’s tweet yesterday said fans will be just as shocked, as the day they were when JDR was fired and team sold at the same time.

by Slawsc on Jan 6, 2012 8:42 AM EST reply actions

Dungy

would be awesome. I could envision Mel Tucker staying, if Coach Dungy was the Head Coach.

by zulu370 on Jan 6, 2012 8:51 AM EST up reply actions

How would he be awesome

from day 1 the fans would complain that he didn’t show enough emotion on the sidelines.

by pksiv on Jan 6, 2012 9:30 AM EST up reply actions

I think Dungy might be a great choice.....

but I think he might like his cushy TV gig pretty well!

by GAJAGFAN on Jan 6, 2012 8:52 AM EST up reply actions

I don't know why people think Dungy is so great.

He had Manning all those years, won a TON of regular season games, then only won 1 Super Bowl with the Colts.

I think you meant to say

“Yeah, I mean who would want to have Peyton Manning as his QB?!”

Hahaha...I'm not saying I wouldn't enjoy a stretch like the Colts have had - of course I would.

Just saying that he had all those wins and yet only won the big one once. He’s the black Bobby Cox.

by JPQ! on Jan 6, 2012 9:25 AM EST up reply actions

I get tired of people comparing the Colts & Dungy

to the Braves and Bobby Cox.

The Braves won their division 14 straight years. The Colts only did it 7 times. Big difference.

by pksiv on Jan 6, 2012 9:31 AM EST up reply actions

True. My bad.

For what it’s worth, I didn’t mean it as a compliment. I don’t like Bobby Cox or the Braves.

Fidelis Ad Mortem

by JPQ! on Jan 6, 2012 9:39 AM EST up reply actions

yeah, the big difference is the Colts sold out for all those years

The difference is really not that much considering the lifespan of baseball players, lack of a salary cap and of course, lack of drug testing in baseball all those years. I mean you ever see Greg Maddux. Dude was ripped beyond belief!

Well, so much for my idea

Chad from Orange Beach, AL:
Maybe it’s me. Maybe I have my head in the clouds. But as someone who was born and raised in Jacksonville and has followed the team as best as I could after leaving, I have been wishing for Tony Dungy to take over as head coach as far back as the Del Rio to SC rumors started. Do I need to wake up and smell the coffee or can I still dream?
John: Probably time to smell the coffee. Dungy would be an ideal choice, and he would fill and exceed every requirement Khan and Smith have in a coach, but I think it’s a long shot for Dungy to ever coach again. I think it’s a particular long shot as long as his son, Eric, is playing at the University of Oregon

it looks like we’re are being the most aggressive out of all the teams looking for coaches

I find it interesting that nobody else

is listed as being interested in Mel Tucker. Or Dirk Koetter for that matter.

by pksiv on Jan 6, 2012 10:56 AM EST reply actions

I think folks feel that Tucker is not ready, but he will no doubt get interviews

that Koetter is probably going back to College, atleast most of the rumors point that way

University of Hawaii

Could you imagine coaching/living there? I’d take that job too!

Some people don't like it out there

Everything costs more and you’re stuck on an island. That life isn’t appealing to some people. I know plenty of Navy people who have been stationed there who never want to go back there again

Casted out by the Jags franchise, Thank God we aren’t Tampa Bay, 2 candidates?
Once the Jags make the hire, they will know it was the right guy after seeing all of these coaches.
