If it weren't for bad luck..???

Some things to consider.. often the difference in the NFL between teams upper third and lower third of teams can be making a few critical plays, injuries to key player's and a bit of luck. But luck has many facets.. luck that you drafted the right guy, luck the team doesnt suffer the injury bug, luck in a ball bouncing in for the field goal, or bad luck when the ball bounces out.

“Diligence is the mother of good luck.“ – Benjamin Franklin

Question Genes' ability all you want, but the one thing no one can say he is not, and that is diligent.

“If you think you can, you can. And if you think you can’t, you’re right.“ – Henry Ford

Mind set can make all the difference, and thats' why I think so many of us are disappointed in the team right now. I can't remember an offseason where the fan base was so optimistic and in the right mindset. Now, well not so much. Hopefully the locker room as a little more insight.

“I’m a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it.“ – Thomas Jefferson

The season is 1-3 that puts us in the company of the Steelers, Lions, and Saints.. only one game less than the Packers, Patriots and Giants. You think any of those teams have written off the season yet..?

“The only sure thing about luck is that it will change.“

Now there are teams that live on the bottom and those that live on the top.. but often who those teams are can change as well. The Lions are a good example of that (or not depending on how the season progresses for them since they are also 1-3 right now)

That said, over all there seem to me to be 3 types of teams.

“Luck is what you have left over after you give 100 percent.”

Those that usually stay on the top. They usually have solid core of players, good GM that has been there for a Longggg... time and a coaching staff that may have seen changes off and on over the years but has not had wholesale changes in personnel or scheme and often they have very stable ownership that gives enough input without being overbearing.

“Luck, bad if not good, will always be with us. But it has a way of favoring the intelligent and showing its back to the stupid.“

Then there are teams that are always "this close", and never change anything and never get above mediocre. This is where I felt we were in the mid 00s' with JDR.

“In short, Luck’s always to blame.“

Then there are teams that look directionless ships, and are often bottom dwellers that can never seem to get a break. They never seem to have any luck and change players and coaches like I change underwear.

“Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity."

So which one are we going to be now..?

  • GM - Gene has been GM 4 years (which really isn't that long) and is the longest tenured staff member
  • Coaching Staff - ALL NEW
  • Core of players - LIMITED

“Luck is the residue of design.“

Its' hard to know if we are on the cusp of being great, and a bit of luck and a few less injuries and we are in it and if we build slow and methodical we can be one of the better teams in the league.

“Luck is the idol of the idle.”

On the other hand are we going to be constantly changing and never getting anywhere. Which is apparently what all the Fire **** crowd wants. Because they can not accept things take time to develop.

“Luck never made a man wise.“

With Khan I think we have an owner that wants to be great, not good enough, but great. That said, being a new owner we have to give him time to put his stamp on the team. Just hopefully its not in the same vein as Jerry Jones or Al Davis..

“It’s hard to detect good luck – it looks so much like something you’ve earned.“

No matter what.. here is to hoping for a little bit of luck during the rest of the season.
