Here is a crazy idea.. If Gabbert TRULY is not the QB of the future, and we need to look for a new one.. Why not now ?
Personally its makes more sense than going with Henne, if we are going to lose, might as well try something innovative.
Hear me out..
We have John Parker Wilson ( Why is he and not Palmer in the PS ) in the practice squad.. why not try him out.Actually why not give Jordan Palmer a call and put him in.. see if he can cut it.
Then there are the following (mostly Rookie or 1 year QBs) on a few other teams practice squads..
B.J. Coleman - Green Bay
Matt Blanchard - Chicago
Case Keenum - Houston
Josh Portis - Seattle
Adam Weber - Tampa
All these guys have decent resume's and might be worth another look at the scouting tapes, combines, etc.. who knows. Maybe one of them could be a surprise. Would be cheap too.. as they would be NFL Minimum.
One thing I would like to see the team do is trade for Ex-Boise State QB Kellen Moore. I think he has the potentional to be really good, if not great NFL QB, even if he is CONSIDERED to be a bit short and light (6'-0" and 200lbs - Which BTW is THE EXACT SIZE OF DREW BREES ). Personally I thought Gene should have picked him up in the 7th round this year anyway, (Instead he got taken by the Lions as a UDFA).
Any of these options I think make more sense that starting Henne who would be at best a patch.. if we need to start looking for a new Franchise QB, why not start now. Whats the worst that could happen..? We get embarrassed and lose.

Note this was written with tongue firmly planted in cheek... but maybe now when you see the options.. everyone will quit whining about starting Henne. Face it this year we have Gabbert, and its his team to win or lose by the end of the season.
