Jaguars news roundup

Al Messerschmidt

Some Jacksonville Jaguars news from around the internet you may have missed over the weekend.

Alualu feeling good again

This was how Tyson Alualu has wanted to feel for a long time. And how he played last Thursday against the Indianapolis Colts... well, that was how the Jaguars’ defensive tackle has wanted to play for a long, long time, too. Alualu, the No. 10 overall selection in the 2010 NFL Draft, has started all 41 games in two and a half NFL seasons. He has played well at times, been a run-stuffing presence at others, and overall, has shown flashes of what made him an early draft selection. But Thursday was different. A lot different.

Fabulous Four: Jaguars vs Texans

Time to hurry? We begin this pre-Texans Fabulous Four with a word on the Jaguars’ offense, and if the unit has struggled this season it also has shown signs of life in recent weeks. The progress has been in the passing game – namely, in the hurry-up offense. Head Coach Mike Mularkey long has used the no-huddle, dating to his time as Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator with Kordell Stewart at quarterback. The Falcons also used it with quarterback Matt Ryan when Mularkey was the offensive coordinator there the past four seasons. The Jaguars have used the hurry-up more in recent weeks, and quarterback Blaine Gabbert has had the best statistical stretch of his career the last four games, throwing for 842 yards and four touchdowns, including a 110-yard performance at Oakland in which he left after a quarter and a half.
