NFL Draft 2013: Do the Jaguars have to take a QB?

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The Jacksonville Jaguars are headed towards a complete rebuild, so they might be in a position where they have to draft a quarterback.

The Jacksonville Jaguars locked in at least the No. 2 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft with their loss on Sunday. Assuming the Kansas City Chiefs draft a quarterback with the first overall pick, the Jaguars might follow up with a quarterback as well. The Chiefs are in a position where they basically have to draft a quarterback first overall.

The Jaguars are in a position, with everything likely being blown up, where they might be forced to draft a quarterback in the first or second round. Even if the team replaces Gene Smith and hires a whole new coaching staff, how hard is it going to be to sell another season of Blaine Gabbert and Chad Henne to a fan base who's frustration is near boiling point?

Rolling one of those out again is likely just going to net the same result and certainly won't have expectations or excitement high no matter what else you do. At the end of the day, they both produce the same results: Not good enough.

Sure the Jaguars could go out and pick up a bridge quarterback, like Alex Smith is he's released, but is that really anything to get excited about or is that just the thirst for a quarterback allowing you to accept mediocrity once again?

Not only has it reached that point where the Jaguars might be forced to take a quarterback, but if a new general comes in with a new coaching staff, they're likely going to want their own quarterback to work with, not the leftovers from Gene Smith.

The 2013 NFL Draft has some good quarterback prospects, but they're all incomplete. There doesn't seem to be a clear cut quarterback such as Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III, but there are guys who can mature into good NFL players. If the Jaguars want to try to get a young guy to develop, history says it's going to need to be within the first 40 picks or so and the Jaguars can basically pick who they want with the No. 2 overall pick.

Be it Tyler Wilson, Geno Smith, Ryan Nassib, Mike Glennon, or Zac Dysert... just get your guy.
