Jaguars claim RB Grimes | jacksonville.com
The Jaguars filled out their 53-man roster today by claiming running back Jonathan Grimes off waivers from the Houston Texans. Linebacker Daryl Smith remains on the injured reserve/designated to return so the Jaguars would have to make a roster move Saturday to make room for Smith. Grimes (5-10, 209) has spent time with Houston and the Jets this year. He played nine games with the Texans and three with the Jets.
Gene Frenette: Dirk Koetter looks better calling shots for Falcons | members.jacksonville.com
It wasn't an official trade this past offseason, but the Atlanta Falcons let Mike Mularkey and Bob Bratkowski receive promotions to the Jaguars of head coach and offensive coordinator, and Falcons coach Mike Smith picked up former Jaguars OC Dirk Koetter for the same post.
Jones-Drew out, Smith could play for Jaguars
Maurice Jones-Drew definitely won’t play Sunday. The news isn’t quite as clear on Jaguars outside linebacker Daryl Smith, but all indications are the franchise’s all-time leading tackler has a very real chance to play in the team’s final home game of the season. Smith, out since training camp with a groin injury, is eligible to come off the injured reserve/designated to return list Saturday. The team is currently carrying 52 players on the roster, and Head Coach Mike Mularkey said this week ideally the remaining roster spot would be used to activate Smith.
