Rookie wide receiver Justin Blackmon is the last remaining "original" receiver on the Jaguars roster.
The Jacksonville Jaguars have been hit hard by injuries, particularly at the wide receiver position with concussions. Concussions have ended the seasons of both Laurent Robinson and Cecil Shorts III, stopping Shorts just short of 1,000 yards on the season. The only remaining wide receiver from the opening day roster is rookie Justin Blackmon.
The opening day roster at the wide receiver position consisted of Robinson, Shorts, Blackmon, Kevin Elliott, and Mike Thomas. As mentioned, Robinson and Shorts have been placed on injured reserve. Kevin Elliott was waived a few weeks ago and Mike Thomas was traded to the Detroit Lions, where he has more rushing yards than receiving yards.
Entering the 2012 season finale, the Jaguars receiving corps now looks like this:
- Justin Blackmon
- Jordan Shipley
- Tony Clemons
- Jerrell Jackson
- Mike Brown
Yep, those guys.
As long as Cecil Shorts can come back from his multiple concussions in 2013 the team should be alright with their front line starters, but the depth and third receiver position will need to be figured out.
