Mocking the Draft Live Mock Recap
I did a 7 round mock over the past 2 days over at Mocking the Draft and came away really happy.
Trade- I traded the Jags 1st and 4th rounders to the Bengals for the 21st pick, their 2nd rounder, 4th rounder, and their 5th rounder.
1st-Kendall Wright WR Baylor- Wright is a gamebreaker and thats what the Jags need. I was thrilled to get him at 21. He brings an entire new threat to the Jags.
2nd- Vinny Curry DE Marshall- Curry is a monster pass rusher and can play the run pretty well too. He is a fan favorite here at BCC so I think everyone will be happy with this one. He will probably start opposite Mincey/Avril/Williams next season
2nd- Josh Norman CB Coastal Carolina- The fast rising DB lands here in the late second with the Jags. Even if Mathis is brought back the Jags need a Corner to start opposite of Cox. Norman is that guy, he has the size and speed to be a lockdown corner in the pros.
3rd- Zebrie Sanders OT FSU- The tackle I wanted, Bobby Massie, was picked the pick before me by the Redskins. Sanders is still a very good prospect for the Jags and looks like he could be the starting RT if not this year then next. He did have a poor Senior Bowl but Im not going to measure him by that. He had some very promising games this season4th- Chris Givens WR Wake Forest- The 2nd WR taken by the Jags in this draft had a very good year going for almost 1,400 yards. There was great depth at WR in this draft and I think Givens is a steal. He has very good open field speed and can be a good 2/3 if the Jags bring in Colston or another big namer this offseason.
5th- Tyrone Crawford DE Boise St- Crawford had an outstanding Shrine week and was basically picked BPA here. He has very good flexibility at 6-4 285 and most think can be a starter in the 4-3. I think he was a major steal.
5th-Eddie Whitley DB Virginia Tech- Whitley can play corner, nickel, or saftey for the Jags. He can help out the DB field with his outstanding ball skills and can tackle well. Another steal I think here.
6th- Chris Rainey RB Florida- Rainey has the speed and electricity to help this Jaguar offense out alot. He can return kicks, and is also a great punt blocker. This gives the Jags new hybrid offense a dangerous weapon.
Well there you have it guys. I thought this draft helped the Jags out a lot and filled their holes.

Seriously
this was a good job. Can’t complain about any of the picks. Do you have the exact link to the Mock Draft?

Nice job
Rainey might go the track and field route but for a 6th round pick he could be a real dynamic player should he choose football.

I thought that at the time but since it isnt real it wasnt a big deal
You made good picks with the picks you acquired so like Adam said, no room to complain.
Nice Job dude
Do you have a link for the draft? I’m wondering who was available at 7.
I like the draft from top to bottom. I agree completely with what Jagsrok said above about Rainey.
Way to go!
E

You read my mind
I really like the fact we get Kendall Wright, he’s a absolute beast with the football in his hands with track star speed he would be a steal there.
Kendall reminds me of Desean but without The off the field problems

I agree
I also think he is similar to steve smith with the leaping ability, physicality and blazing speed. If he was 6" he would be a surfire top ten pick.

Yea he has elite athleticism and is can jump great for being 5’10. I still think he could to top 15

Yeah man
I was rooting you on. If you guys look back at the comments for the first couple of rounds; he was getting props from all of the other teams. C’mon, turning our first two picks into Wright, Curry, and Norman…That would be unreal.
Thanks man. I was lucky the board feel that way. Its always funny wen I grabbed a prospect someone else really wanted.

rainey isn't a gene smith character guy.
by Slawsc on Feb 18, 2012 11:06 PM EST via mobile reply actions
He had one incidence. Does that mean he is a jailbird for life? I agree we don’t need felons on our time and treating women badly is not ok but he made 1 mistake

This is one of the better drafts ive seen so far.
The majority have us taking Couples so its nice to see some change. I hope Gene reads BCC, he needs to quit trying to be so clever with all his small school picks and start drafting better.
by JagSoldier on Feb 19, 2012 12:04 PM EST via mobile reply actions
What makes you think...
Gene is trying to be clever? I really do believe he’s picking players off of his due diligence. A lot of people don’t realize that there are more ‘small school’ players selected than realized.
I'm sure...
most fans from most teams feel the same way you feel. It’s only natural and I’m sure Gene is going to do all he can get better at drafting.
If Kiper doesn't approve its a bad pick..
didn’t you know? lol

Pretty good mock
This along with Colston and Williams or Avril would be a great off-season.
by Sylvester.The.Jaguar.fan on Feb 19, 2012 2:56 PM EST reply actions
Colston is a must because Kendall and Chris are both at or below 6’0. We need the 6’4 WR

I mean a tall deep threat guy. Didn’mean to say 6’4 lol.

by Thunder64 on Feb 19, 2012 3:52 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
IDK about that
give me talent and ability more than height. Tallest WR for GB is Jordy Nelson at 6’3 and he is not a deep threat per se.
The Giants tallest major(as in not Ramses Barden who happens to be like 6’6) guy is 6’1
I just want a talented group of guys who can catch balls and help score points for this team. If you can get separation and catch balls, I don’t care if you are 5’10 or 6’1.

I agree. I would take a more talented 6’1 player over a 6’4 less talented player. But if they have equal talent its always nice to have a big leaping threat downfield. If ther is a player better suited for us that is 6’1 I have no objection.

right
height is added benefit, but talent is more important

Wow
some of my sleepers fell hard in this game.
2 For example: OT Mitchell Schwartz and CB Josh Robinson
I was slightly inclined to take Schwartz in the 3rd but decided on Sanders. Schwartz is goin to be good IMO
