2012 NFL Free Agency: Is Mario Manningham An Option?
As we continue to look at who the Jacksonville Jaguars could target in free agency, we should also look at some secondary options that could compliment other free agents and draft picks. At the wide receiver position, there will be plenty of those type of players. One player, who's gotten a lot of hype because of his catch in the Super Bowl is New York Giants wide receiver Mario Manningham.
I asked SB Nation's Giants blog Big Blue View about Manningham. Click the jump to see what they had to say.
Mario Manningham -- If you are looking for a speedy, play-making wide receiver who probably still has not played his best football Manningham might be your guy. The guy has speed, he can make big plays and difficult catches -- as he showed in the Super Bowl -- and at various times when the Giants have suffered injuries Manningham has stepped up and delivered as the primary target. Can he really be a No. 1? I don't think so, but he can certainly be a dynamic 60-65 catch No. 2, and he won't get that chance with the Giants as long as Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz are healthy. Manningham can make you crazy with some awful pass routes sometimes, but he is always a home run threat. The expectation is that Manningham will hit the open market, and he hotly sought after. He will end up with a new team because the Giants won't get into a bidding war for a guy who would be their third receiver.
I've seen many people say that Manningham could be a No. 1 if given the chance, but the fact of the matter is that he has been given the chance and just hasn't been able to do it. As Big Blue View notes, he's a perfect complimentary receiver.

I honestly want to know what he's expecting, Numbers wise
I wonder if his Super catch in the S.B. will inflate His thoughts on what he thinks he deserves. I think he’s a guy that thrives in a system that has a Real #1 WR to draw attention away from him (Manningham), he’s not a guy, as Alfie stated, that produces when he’s the #1 guy and is game-planned against, he’s a good “complimentary” guy. If we get him at a good/reasonable price then he’s not a bad choice, but there are other possible options, Ofcourse.

I agree that he's a #2. Unfortunately SOMEONE is going to give him #1 money...
I just pray it’s not us…
"Sad fact about our generation: Most ppl would rather hear "you look good" than "you are good". We spend thousands a year on cars, clothes, & cosmetics; Forget that. I can give you a Bible for free. Save money, save your soul. Get right with the Savior, Jesus Christ."- Travis D. Holmes
I think the league recognizes...
he’s never gonna be a #1. If he’s looking for #1 money, I think he’ll be waiting forever. I’d like him as our #2 though. He seems to get deep at least once a game for the Giants and I think he could do that here with Johnson or Colston on the other side, and Marcedes or Mike Thomas working the middle.

I like how Alfie put it
I think he’s a complimentary/role type receiver, sort of like a Devery Henderson of the Saints. Maybe a 60-65 catch guy for a team that throws the ball a lot, but for us an overpaid role type guy. I’d much rather give Mike Thomas, Cecil Shorts, and Dillard a shot for those positions.

So I'm an exaggerated screaming psychopath who clearly doesn't exist. That's High Praise.
They're going to get a shot either way
it’s not like those 3 are going to be released prior to training camp
I didn't mean it like they wouldn't be given a shot
I meant it more like why overpay somebody else when you probably have some homegrown guys who could easily fill those roles for a lot cheaper.

Huh ?
“I’d much rather give Mike Thomas, Cecil Shorts, and Dillard a shot for those positions.”
How do these not contradict each other ?
“I didn’t mean it like they wouldn’t be given a shot”
BTW: I Agree with you, the only guys I wanted added in Free Agency are sure #1 guys (As sure as you can get anyway).
Their are plenty of examples
where guys who didn’t show anything early turned out to be very good WR. If Sullivan is as good as everyone says he is, we’ll certainly find out this year about these guys.
Just look back at Jimmy Smith’s career. Started with 2 Injury filled seasons in Dallas. Couldn’t make the Eagles team out of training camp. Came to an expansion team and really didn’t light it up until his 2nd year with the team.
wanted to sign him for a while
tbh when he made that catch i gave up on him. I like him a lot, but he’s not a guy id want to get into a biding war for either.

a #2 guy
I dont think he gets #1 guy money, but i do think he gets overpaid depending on which receivers actually make it to the market. I agree with Alfie in that he had the chance to prove it and he didnt own it. I hate to say he cant though because i do think they arrow is pointing up on him.
E
ok.... first off.
As I stated on T2’s post from yesterday, i work for the giants and am currently at the facility so just typing this makes me nervous but anyways…
Mario Manningham is not a number #2. He is absolutely in no existing world a number #1 he is a “decent” #3.
He’s is not a bad locker room guy, but between you and me he’s less intelligent than a sack of potatoes. If i was only able to tell you one very specific story from this season…
There’s no point in signing him, he’s a dumber version of Mike Thomas, the only reason he had success this year (which he didn’t even have very much of) is because when you have to cover both hakeem nicks and victor cruz there’s gonna be a guy open.
Lol. Brutally Honest.
Is this Really Khan?

I respect your opinion
but from what I have seen from him, he has speed and can make nice catches. He would be an upgrade from every single receiver we have on this team. Plus, the Jags have a better run game that requires 8 guys in the box. He’d be able to get open if he was here. I don’t think he is a number 1 however, and he wouldn’t even be our number 2 most likely(since we’ll probably sign one of Bowe, Jackson, or Colston and draft a first or second rounder), but you should give the man a little more credit. Even if that is how you feel, the catch he made won you a super bowl.
I have not seen anyone mention him as a #1 anywhere
like seriously, absolutely nowhere. But I think he would make a decent #2. He could probably even be a pretty good one with some work on his route running.

It would seem...
that we now have a coach that can teach him the importance of route running.
Jags ticket holder since 1995.
Whoever has the Steve Carell GIF please post now...
NO NO NO NO NO NO
Please do not spend money on this guy.
Take him and two others guys at WR in free agency and let them duke it out for the 1-3 spots. I think Pierre Garcon is a possibility as well.
