Shad Khan Wants To Grow Jacksonville, Not Just Jaguars
Many have tabbed new Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shahid Khan as a savvy businessman who will approach owning the Jaguars in a different manner than Wayne Weaver did. We've already seen it a bit with Khans "bravado" and the announcement that the team will change the primary uniform color and get entirely new Nike jerseys in 2013. It looks like Khan's business mind is going to work for the city of Jacksonville as well and not just for the franchise.
"There are a huge amount of decisions made in global centers like London or Hamburg, Germany," Khan said. "Jacksonville is not on their checklist or on their list of cities. They might have Miami or cities with bigger names. If a multinational company is expanding, they need to know Jacksonville is an option," Khan told the Florida-Times Union in Indianapolis on Friday. "So if we are fortunate to be playing a game, the city fathers, the development leaders need to be on the plane selling the city and meeting with some key decision makers. You can have appointments lined up."
Khan explained that Jacksonville has a great deep-water port that is underutilized and doesn't have near the activity it did in the 1980's and the 1990's when Khan would make trips to Jacksonville three times a month. He also said when the Jaguars play in Europe, he plans to fly out local economic developers to meet with foreign business leaders.
Sounds like Khan is pretty committed to Jacksonville, to me.

If you build it they will come..
Create more jobs so economy isn’t the excuse for fans not showing up any more. Love it.
Get some of these forein companies
to set up in Jacksonville…win win, because it helps the unemployed fans get jobs, as more jobs will be available, and then they can buy season tickets.

Vision
Shad Khan’s vision is broader, deeper, and more informed than I think any of us gave him credit for when he first purchased the team. This isn’t just a guy who made money selling auto parts and decided to buy an NFL team. Shad Khan is approaching the Jaguars and Jacksonville like an under performing company in need of a turnaround artist. I’m no longer concerned about him moving the team. I honestly believe that he would view that as a failing on his part and his ego won’t let him do it. He wants more than just wins, he wants what the old guard of the NFL has, mystique and tradition, and he understands that the financial underpinnings of the city will help stabilize. Wayne Weaver understood that you need to go out into the city and shake the tree to get corporate support. Shad Khan wants to plant a bunch more trees to shake.

I could not agree more. The more I hear from Khan, the more I want to write Stan Kroenke a thank you letter. He could not only be the best thing to happen to this franchise but the city as well.

This also sounds like it'd make an AWESOME HBO show
When David Simon finishes up with Treme (an amazing show), he can move on to Jacksonville and make a new gritty drama centered around the Jaguars and their importance to the city.
Thats Refreshing
He’s definitely backing up his statement that he is committed to Jacksonville. He strikes me as a man who wants to be remembered not just for making the Jaguars perennial contenders but also growing Jacksonville to the economical relevance of other top NFL cities. An outside the box thinker; bring the businesses to town, bring the employees, create a larger consumer population. He’s in it.
Go Big or Go Home!
I am really starting to appreciate Khan
I mean, its obvious from this article he’s wanting to make Jacksonville his home fort. And he has bigger plans than just the Jaguars. I wouldn’t be surprised if in 10-15 years, we’ll have Khan to thank for A LOT of growth here in sleepy ole’ Jacksonville
Jacksonville's Potential
This is really exciting. I moved to Palm Coast 3 years ago, and I believe JAX is one of the most underrated cities in the US. Khan’s type of vision, if it’s not just bluster, could help take Jacksonville to the next level. Between the awesome climate, the affordable housing, and the history of nearby cities like St. Augustine, it’s time for people to recognize what a great place it is. I’m getting tired of hearing people who have never been here dump on it, and it sounds like Khan thinks the same way. And on a different note…. I like the idea of changing the primary uniform color. :D
He may be in a better position to do more good than the mayor long term
Mayor’s have term limits and elections to worry about. Shad Khan’s only term limits are life expectancy and personal financial mettle. Also, throwing money around doesn’t require a committee.
Have you heard Mayor Brown speak? He has a pretty bold vision for the city too. Khan could prove to be one of his biggest allies.

My mayor comment was a more general one.
I haven’t heard Mayor Brown speak (I actually live up in Athens but am a Jax native). Brown may have a good vision, but ultimately the constraints of an elected office do place some limitations on the expediency and amount of change you can bring forth. Just think, some of the infrastructure projects that Mayor Delaney started with the Better Jacksonville plan years ago are finally starting to get finished up and pay dividends. Khan can make significant moves at a single board meeting and release capital a lot faster. That was more the thrust of my commentary.
SHAD KHAN
SHAD " THE CHOSEN ONE " KHAN ……… Shad is the man that will resurrect JAG dominance back to old form just like the late 90’s baby !!!

Jacksonville was underutilized due to the "Mile Point" problem
that prevented ships from entering ports for two thirds of the day. They approved funds to fix it earlier this year. Right around the time Khan came to town. This man shits kryptonite.
Here’s the article below.

not to mention Congress and the DoD is trying to speed up the carrier move.

My point is
the “Mile Point” project looked to be stalled up until this year. Something changed that. There was an act of Congress needed to approve the funds for the fix.
In my opinion, Congressmen only do things with the motive of keeping themselves in office. Now they get to say " See, the government DOES work".
His fresh set of eyes are much welcomed and needed
Tell it like it is, Shad! We have become too complacent and immune to our mediocre ways.
