Blaine Gabbert Big On Talent Short On Weapons and Mechanics

HOW DOES THIS SOUND

Star-divide

I know i may stand alone on this but if i had to go back and do last years draft over i wouldn't change a thing at the top, and by that i mean BLAINE GABBERT. Gabbert was a very good prospect coming out of college and for good reason he was very accurate 18-6 td-int differential and he completed 60% of his passes, i know you say that sounds very avreage coming from a spread offense that saw chase Daniels light up the college ranks week in and week out. The thing is that everywhere Gabbert goes hes constantly let down by being placed around lesser talent i think we have to agree that without Gabbert that year theres no way they beat oklahoma let alone even be in the top 25 he carried that team the whole season and after watching that oklahoma game he became one of my favorite qbs coming out next to Jake locker and i was thrilled when we drafted him. There's a reason why he was a projected top 5 pick the kid is talented. He was rated as the nations top pocket passer in front of this years soon to be number one pick Andrew Luck coming out of high school. The problem is that hes so physically gifted he was always able to dominate on" pure raw" talent because there were very few who could match his talent. In the nfl everybody's has talent and that was something he wasnt used to which is why I say we sign Vincent Jackson and Harry Douglas then try to trade back maybe with cincy who seem to be in love with T. Richardson. I say he falls in our lap at 7, we get there picks 17 and 23 and take kendall wright and this is the most talent hes ever been around in his life and with the help of Greg Olson who i was hoping got th OC job at first can help him with his footwork and fine tune some other areas he can finally live up to that Dan Marino type potential he has.(Both have rocket arms and almost identical release) The kid has a Jay Cutler like arm which is probly the strongest in the league.

I like Blaine Gabbert too

With better weapons, better coaching, he should be a lot better. He has all the talent

Literally

the entire second half of this post is one long run-on sentence. From “There’s a reason…” on down to the end. I don’t disagree with some of your points, but my God man.

Whoa...

you’re right. That is one long ass sentence.

Thanks

i fixed that i didnt realize but the point was to put a realistic perception of a young qb out there not look for where a periods supposed to be placed.

If you're going to put something out for public dissemination, then please try to use coherent sentence structure

Not trying to be grammar police, but you may have had something worth reading that people dismiss as gobbledygook due to presentation.

This seems to be a very reasonable group of WR additions

This is the first one that really makes sense. I see Gene going after a clear number 1 in FA and paying him. Then we will probably get a Meachem, Manningham, or Douglas. Then get a guy in the second round or trade back in the first and that is much more talent.

I agree about the talent.....

and I agree he had less than optimal weapons. I still have major concerns about his toughness and heart. I know it makes a lot of people mad when I say that, and they point out why he does not want to get stuck by a 300 lb defensive lineman. Well I agree it would not be on the top of my list either. I also understand that it goes with that job. Blaine Gabbert is 6-4, 233 lbs., and a professional athlete. He physically has the size and ability to stand in the pocket and get the job done……if he wants to!

A lot of QBs

Get scared in pressure. even the best. His problem was stepping backwards and flinching. But you have to admit he improved over the season with that. He has to step up. I never questioned his heart or his work ethic or his confidence. He just lacked experience. If it doesnt get better than yeah he is soft. Were just used to seeing one of the toughest players in the history of the NFL. David Garrard. Who always got whacked and never got a penalty. But he is injured and his career is over from that.

Brady looked scared in the pocket

With all due respect, I think the heart and toughness chatter is absolute nonsense. Does the kid need to shred a knee or lacerate a spleen to prove his toughness? Most QBs do not like to get hit.

Nope....

I do not want Blaine to commit hari kari on the football field. I will even go further than you in saying that I bet NO QBs like to get hit, and who could blame them. My question to you is how can you say he has heart and the necessary toughness to be successful in this league until you see him deliver the ball and take the hit. That is a job requirement in the NFL. I hope he has it, but I have not seen that enough to give him the nod yet.

because he has taken hits and delivered the ball

Last year was rough. Let’s not sugarcoat it, it was a terrible performance. But, with a year of seat time, and good coaching, which none of us can deny he did not get last year, I think a lot of his issues are fixable. I saw some horrible play, but I also saw glimpses and signs of hope.

I also saw those glimpses of hope....

and I also agree that much can be fixed during this “normal” off-season. I am hoping that not long into next preseason, I will feel much better about the situation than I do now.

preseason games will be great indicators (when he has the red jersey off)

Kid’s got all the confidence in the world. I just would love to see it parlay into performance on gameday.

You bring up a great point......

When you hear him talk in interviews, he is loaded with confidence. I agree that is he ever brings that to his game, he could be a great one. Preseason will take on a sense of importance this year that is above normal for sure!
