Rhett's Top 50 Big Board
Hi, everybody. I'm Rhett Chrystal, but I'm sure most of you know that already, from my large amount of comments, and fan posts. Alfie is allowing me to contribute to BCC, and I thank him for the opportunity. It's an honor to write here under Alfie, Adam, and River City Rage. I will be focusing primarily on draft content, so that is why I start with my top 50 prospects. I will try following this with a scouting report for each player, with one report a day, but being a high school student and having a social life, I may not be able to get one in every day..but please bear with me.

Just curious.. Haven’t seen hid name a lot? What makes him top 50?

CB out of Coastal Carolina
had a pretty ridiculous East-West Shrine game week. Has good size and speed and could be a contributor at the next level. Top 50 is a bit high though IMO. I see him more like 65-75

I have him at #44
because I think he’ll continue to rise up boards, after workouts, he is a talent and can cover most receivers, needs to improve in run defense.

just think it is a bit high right now.

I always love your draft research, Rhett. Good start here - I assume guys may move up/down after combine?
Personally, I think Floyd is the second best WR, and that RG3 should switch spots with Trent Richardson. Looking forward to the individual breakdowns.
Scale back the homework and socializing for the next 50 days and get er done!

Thanks,
and haha. With Robert Griffin, the fact that he doesn’t make any pre-snap reads, and doesn’t call any of his own plays, makes me think a little less of him, he will be a really good QB, but isn’t the complete QB that Luck is, that’s why I have him #9.

Would have Mercilus a little higher but solid

Mercilus had a great season, but he is a liability in the running game. He isn’t very physical and he doesn’t shed blocks too well. He pretty much just relies on his burst, if he isn’t the first guy off the line, he’ll probably be blocked out of the play.

Michael Brockers and Alshon Jeffrey stood out as guys I have much lower,
but overall a fairly good list. On my big board I have Brockers 23rd and Jeffrey 33rd. Brockers will likely go earlier then I have him because he is likely the best 5-technique, I dont see him as a 3-technique because he gets too high.
Getting high...
…my favorite thing to do…jk, but on a serious note, that can be taught. He is loaded with potential, and although he only has one year of experience, he will be very good. His first season would probably best off being a rotational guy, as he learns the game more, but he’ll turn into one of the top D-Lineman in the league.

The love fest with Marvin McNutt continues on this website
How can you rank him top 50 when he won’t be drafted until the fourth round at the earliest? Give me a break
Fourth at the earliest?
Based on what?
by Sylvester.The.Jaguar.fan on Feb 7, 2012 12:59 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
Lets compare...
McNutt:
-great athlete
-good route runner
-can stretch the field
-can beat off press coverage
-great body size(6’4" 215; long arms and big hands)
-former QB, so he is usually on page with his QB, and always knows what’s going on
-good red zone target
Blackmon:
-great athlete
-solid route runner(limited tree)
-can stretch the field
-can beat off press
- solid size(6’1" 205)
-smart
BOTH WILL BE CLOCKED IN CLOSE TO EACH OTHER IN 40 AT COMBINE.
Stats:
McNutt: 82 receptions, 1,315 yards(16.0 average), 12 TDs
Blackmon: 121 receptions, 1,522 yards(12.3 average), 18 TDs
I think McNutt will be drafted anywhere between early 2nd and late 3rd, and honestly if he impressed during these workouts, he can be taken in the late first.

So we are really comparing stats?
And neither blackmon or mcnutt can stretch the field. Both of them separate using body control and strength rather than explsion. I’d give blackmon a slight edge in route running. But this is a moot point anyway, comparing the best WR in the draft to another WR just so you can call the latter a top 50 player doesn’t add up
they both lack elite speed
but they can still stretch the field, and yes they are possesion receivers, and use their body to shield off defenders, and McNutt has the size advantage which helps. He’s a top 50 player, and you’ll see why.

We should...
at least get scouting reports on the Top 25 prospects on your board as you change it around by the time we get to the draft.
I could do that

I'm saying that McNutt is not a top 50 player in this draft, with all other positions considered
And he is not in the top tier of WRs available. Personally I like Joe Adams alot more than McNutt, and I like Nick Toon and Juron Criner more than McNutt. Heck, I’d even take a healthy Ryan Broyles over McNutt.
Not saying McNutt is garbage, but I’d say there are at least 10 WRs I feel are better than him in the draft, and he’s certainly not on the list of top 50 prospects. But some people on here feel like he’s a 2nd round pick….
I graduated from Wisoncsin now?
Just being a pain in the butt :)
What’s the story with B.J. Cunningham? Late round? Terrible prospect? I have no clue.
On Wisconsin.
Cunningham
is a late 3rd-early 5th guy. Depends on how early other receivers fall, some compare him to Anquan Boldin because they are both big and physical receivers. He won’t make a lot of big plays, but he’s a possesion receiver, and gets a lot of first downs. Lacks elite speed, and will never be a true #1, but will probably end up being a solid #2 receiver somewhere.

vinny curry, mark barron, and donte hightower need to be higher
and juron criner and joe adams should be on there above of mcnutt
Cold Blooded
This is his board.
Not to be rude or anything but you should go make your own board if that’s what you think.
letting him have some feedback
other than those issues i think its solid. and not to be rude but i wasnt talking to you

Curry – I think he’s a mid-2nd, which the spot he’s at fits that,
Barron – Not very good in man coverage, against a receiving tight end, or slot, he’ll be a liability, and I’ve seen him bite on quite a few play actions, and he has some minor character concerns I believe.
Hightower – His 09 ACL tear scares me, and he’s bad in man coverage.
Criner – Late 2nd to late 3rd imo. Supposedly lacks passion for the game, not very productive in short passing game, and can being stuck at the line when pressed.
Adams – I think he’s a early 3rd to late 3rd.

not really at the linebacker position
if you have him graded there thats your opinion and its fine but i dont necessarily think you can fault a guy for getting an acl tear 2 years ago
Cold Blooded
I'm not sure...
how you can give the type of feedback you gave on something that is based purely on his perspective. And even if you weren’t talking to me, by the very nature of a site such as this, once you post a comment, anyone has the right to reply to it.
exactly
Nick Toon? Juron Criner? Joe Adams? Michael Engew (Blaine’s former TE at Mizzou)? And McNutt is above them? The list goes on…
Egnew
is practically a big slow receiver, can’t even call him a tight end, if he can’t block. I think he’s a late 3rd-4th.

I would be happy
With the Jags taking any position except OG and DT. Anything else is fine and would help
If I was Gene
it’d go down to Decastro, Coples, or Rieff.

How about if, through some turn of events, RG3 is available at 7...
then what do we do?

Or...
Cleveland with their second first round pick and some of the other picks they got from the trade with Atlanta. Especially if they pick a player like Blackmon or Richardson. Nothing better than adding a skill position player and adding the QB to go with him, similar to how the Bengals did last year with Green and Dalton.
