2013 Super Bowl Odds Open With Jaguars At Bottom

JACKSONVILLE, FL - JANUARY 01: The mascot of the Jacksonville Jaguars leads the team to the field before play against the Indianapolis Colts January 1, 2012 at EverBank Field in Jacksonville, Florida. (Photo by Al Messerschmidt/Getty Images)

The MGM Grand's sports book in Las Vegas has opened betting for each NFL team to win Super Bowl XLVII and it features the Jacksonville Jaguars at the very bottom of their betting list at 150-1 odds.

While the odds are certainly subject to change and definitely will change after free agency in March and the draft in April, they are very much based on quarterbacks. As long as the Jaguars are content to start Blaine Gabbert in September, they likely won't get much respect as far as predictions and oddsmakers go no matter how good Maurice Jones-Drew is and how strong the defense is.

Click after the jump to see all the Super Bowl XLVII odds via the MGM Grand.

I think JAX has the lowest fanbase

nation wide, out of all teams…so this would make sense.

I know

Cincinatti fans, Tampa Bay fans, Oakland fans, Miami fans, but never met another Jags fan outside of a Jags vs. Jets/Bills game.

I gotta get me to the MGM

The Redskins sit 125 – 1 right now, place a 50 dollar bet on them winning it as soon as possible. Gotta place that bet before Manning possibly goes to DC cause the odds are gonna get a lot better if he does. As for the Jags, well I doubt we make a one season turn around to the Superbowl, we deserve better odds then at least the Browns.

by kterr on Feb 6, 2012 10:46 PM EST reply actions

very true

but they already have a pretty good defense, a great young back in Helu and a Superbowl winning coach. 125 – 1 odds would be worth the risk especially with the possibility of Manning going there. Just saying.

by kterr on Feb 7, 2012 7:26 AM EST up reply actions

Screw that

Prove em’ wrong. Jags can go 5-11 to 11-5 if they upgrade the offense & stay healthy on defense.

People willing to bet

Odds are always set to try and take your money. In order to take Jaguars fans money, you have to offer them higher odds.

Rightfully so

Gene better get this team going.

No surprise

Jaguars are always at the bottom and people have this hate for Jax. This isn’t nothing new. This perception needs to change though and it the Jags need to make it change this coming season.

Having the worst

offense in the league is not a misperception, it’s a fact.

by zulu370 on Feb 7, 2012 8:04 AM EST up reply actions

True, but the 6th ranked defense was nothing to sneeze at

Fact is there were only 3 games last year in which the team was blown out: Jets, Chargers, Falcons

I truly believe that most games come down to 3-5 plays difference. Hell, Denver could have easily been 3-13 or 8-8. I’ve said a million times that the 2010 Jags could have been 5-11 or 4-12 just as easily as they were 8-8.

A couple of playmakers, a defensive end and who knows. I really am not that impressed with Houston. They’re not a team that will step on your throat offensively.

I think that defensive ranking is a bit of a misnomer

If we had a more potent offense, I’d be willing to bet that our defensive ranking would have been worse.

Teams had no reason to try and score big points against the Jags since 2 TD’s was usually enough. They could play conservative the entire game and not worry about falling behind.

I get that our offense being bad could hurt the defense since it was on the field a lot. But we were also behind a lot late in games where teams were running out the clock instead of attacking a prevent defense and gaining garbage yards and points.

by pksiv on Feb 7, 2012 1:25 PM EST up reply actions

You could also argue it's a misnomer

Because they were shredded by injuries and were put in bad spots by an offense that couldn’t keep them off the field.

If I was picking for next year, GB would be #1...

Still, what are the keys to winning the SB?

1) Top-flight QB. Tom Brady. Nuff said.
2) Age. The older a team is the more likely there is to be a dropoff between years. The younger a team is, the more likely players are to improve. The Pats’ defense is extremely young.
3) Perception. The thing about calculating odds is it requires a balance. Usually the odds are a function of how many people are going to bet on a certain team. Since NE is popular AND a perennial power, they’ll get picked by a lot of people.

And they got exposed big time against the Giants.

Matt Moore

ended the season 12th in passer rating. That’s ahead of 20 other starters. Ours was dead last.

Passer rating is a ridiculous statistic

You make it sound as if the Dolphins fired their coach solely on a whim. I think the prevailing sentiment is that the Dolphins are going to make a run at Matt Flynn or Peyton Manning.

yeah, you're probably right,

Rodgers, Brees, Brady, don’t look like 1,2 and 3. Oh and I didn’t make it sound like anything, concerning the coach in Miami. However, being 6-10 was probably was more of a reason he got fired than not having a QB. Using that logic, not having a QB got del rio fired. I simply stated that the Dolphins do have a QB. He’s not bad. Numbers don’t lie. Quit trolling me , Bro.

by zulu370 on Feb 7, 2012 11:05 AM EST up reply actions

Matt Moore is not good. I don't care what his passer rating is. I've seen him play.

I doubt the Dolphins starting QB is on the team yet. From what I read, the Phins owner is going to pull a Brinks truck up to Peytons house if/when he is released.

you're an f'ing buffoon

Trolling? A reply to your comment is considered trolling? Shake yourself, ma’am.

If the Dolphins have a quarterback, then A) Why did Sparano get fired? B) Why is it that they are going to make a run at the free agent QBs and possibly trade up for a shot at RGIII and C) If Matt Moore is the answer, then why did Carolina cut him loose?

Being 6-10 was likely the result of not having a quarterback. They thought Henne was the answer, but he was not.

Trolling. Whatever you say, jack.

I need to get to Vegas.....

at those odds placing a $100 bet on the Jags could get you $15K reward!

Had Weaver still owned the team I don’t know if I would have placed a bet but with Kahn it seems like he will be a spender so maybe there is some type of hope?

OMG!

Another ‘Wayne didn’t spend’ comment. What the hell were some of you people doing duirng the past offseasons? Not paying attention to the teams activities, that’s for sure. Wayne himself paid for our ‘fixed’ defense last year but at the same didn’t spend. Also paid for plenty of Shack Harris’ free agent failures. Only difference between Khan and Wayne in that regard is that Shad has been outspoken in the matter.

by kjones407 on Feb 7, 2012 11:01 AM EST up reply actions

Not just last season but every season.

There’s a salary cap which includes a minimum required amount teams have to spend. Wayne spent it and so will Khan. The issue is hopefully we’ll spend it more wisely going forward than we did the years Shack was around.

Finally made it over to www.bovada.lv/

They have us at 100-1 odds…so I took that bet! LOL…Bet $100 of my bday money on the Jags and $10 on the Falcons. I figure either way it’s not REALLY my money (and if we win I get $10,000 or if ATL wins I get $200 on their odds). Lol
