The gust of air from the flap of a butterfly's wings could turn into a hurricane by the time it reaches the other side of the planet.
Last year that's what Blaine Gabbert was. A flap of a butterfly's wings.
When people say, "Oh, we did nothing free agency, we have the same exact 5-11 TEAM! We are DOOMED!", they seem to forget one thing:
Blaine Gabbert had a pretty rough first season. He had a lot of factors against him.
- Bad coaching
- Bad receivers
- No offseason training
- Had only a few weeks to prepare to be the starter following the release of Garrard
- Guy Whimper
He had trouble getting comfortable in the pocket, and threw away a lot of balls. To his credit, he would throw an impressive ball every now and again that would show off his potential. Toward the end of the season, we had a couple great first or second quarters that would fizzle out in the second half.
Bottom line is, he, like many other NFL quarterbacks, was not adjusted to the speed of the NFL, and was simply not ready to be an NFL quarterback.
Yes. We have pretty much the same roster as last season going into the draft. But we have a whole new offensive coaching staff and an offseason to prepare Blaine Gabbert and a draft to get him some weapons. I can totally see us grabbing 2 receivers early in the draft, 2 guys with real potential who can grow with Gabbert and give us a passing attack that hasn't been seen here in over 10 years. Our team is chock full of young guys. Give them time to develop. We will not be the same Jaguars as last year.
Same team, new year.
