Is it just me.....

or does the local media just blow your mind. I can almost accept, and at least feel sorry for, the Tebow faithful that just can't imagine why a team like the Jaguars would not want him. Deep down inside, these people are true to the core Gator fans, and Tim Tebow was a huge part of the team that gave them many years of glory. We here are fans of the Jaguars. I think we can all at least respect the passion Gator fans have for their team, as misguided as it may seem at some times. It is another group from Jacksonville that really turns my stomach.

Through the course of last night and this morning I watched the local news. I caught Fox News at 10 last night and was amazed how biased both anchors were, expressing how they could not understand how this (Tebow to the Jets) could have happened. Earlier in the evening Dan Hicken of First Coast News acted like the possibility of getting Tim was the greatest sports news ever, even more important than when the city actually got the team in the first place. This morning, I watched one of the feature reporters from First Coast News hitting himself in the head with a printer paper box top out of disbelief that the Jags did not get Timmy. Fox's morning show was no better, with that married couple that anchors the show just blown away by the fact Tebow got away.

Each one of these supposed unbiased news programs painted two things dead wrong. First, they made the hometown football team look like a bunch of idiots. They made Gene and Shad look like fools. The second thing they did was falsely represent the Jaguar fan base as wanting Tim Tebow so badly, as if to quench a need for him that has not been able to be filled since the day the Bronco's drafted him.

Both these concepts are false. I can accept (though not agree with) the theory that the Jags may have wanted Tim at a greatly reduced price and under the understanding that he was not being selected to be a starting QB because I do think Shad Kahn thinks he will sell tickets. I can also accept the theory that Shad saw this as a way to appease the Gator lovers and still not burden his new team with the circus that is called Tim Tebow. Lets face it, Shad may love football and being an NFL owner, but he is in this game to make money, and when he sees a chance to do that, he will. As far as the fan base that was hungry to get Tim back to town, as I mentioned before, that is a true fact...but its not the Jags fan base, but the one from Gainesville. I would really like to see a vote of season ticket holders as to whether they think the team is better off with or without Tim. I also think that when they talk to the "man on the street" about any Jaguars situation, they need to ask them if they hold season tickets or not. To me, it would qualify the value of their statement.

I guess it is nothing I should not have expected. It was foolish of me to think that the local talking heads would have a better handle on the real situation than the national talking heads on ESPN and such. If they are so inaccurate with things that we at BCC know about, it makes me wonder how far off they are with the other news!
