DRAFT: MID ROUND PICKS

Everyone always talks about rounds 1 and 2 of the draft and who we should take, if we should move back what positions of need can we fill. But what about the middle rounds 3-5? This seems to be where the Jags have shined picking up players in the Gene Smith era (Pot Roast, Cox, Thomas, Lane, and Rackley).

I personally like players that will go in these rounds like.

WR Ryan Broyles Oklahoma 5-10 192 Rounds 3-4

Could be great for us in the slot or even split out wide. Was the most productive WR in college history with strong hands and can run great routes. If he can make it back to full strength from the leg injury he could be a steal. I would think he competes with Mike Thomas after Thomas had a down year last season.

WR Marvin McNutt Iowa 6-3 216 Rounds 3-4

More of a possession receiver than a burner uses his height well and runs decent routes. He worries me a bit as he could not get any separation from Alfonzo Dennard of Nebraska and he has the tightest hips of all the CB's in the draft.

CB Josh Norman Coastal Carolina 6-0 197 Rounds 3-4

Looked solid in the East-West Shrine game practices allowing zero separation and making acrobatic diving interceptions. Could be a small school guy Gene falls in love with.

C Michael Brewster 6-4 312 Ohio State Rounds 4-5

Solid lineman for this part of the draft. Could use a year as a backup to work on his footwork and strength while Meester plays out his career for Jacksonville.

OT Andrew Datko 6-6 315 Florida State Rounds 4-5

Another solid lineman who falls in this draft due to durability concerns. If he can make it through this shoulder injury he could be a productive lineman for us as he flashed signs he can be very good in college.

OLB/ILB Sean Spence 5-11 231 Miami Rounds 4-5

Solid backer who did nothing but produce in college. Only knock on him is size issues. He has a great nose for the football, always around or making tackles, and can fly from sideline to sideline. This could help the Jags as Clint Session has concussion issues.

What are your thoughts and players you may be interested in during these rounds?
