While the Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback "controversy" is getting started much earlier than it usually does, Jaguars quarterback Blaine Gabbert hasn't changed how he approaches practice, despite being named the starter.
"I compete every practice," Gabbert said at a press conference following practice on Wednesday. "I know perfect isn't really ever achievable, but I like to think it is. I'm plenty competitive and I get really mad at myself, just like anybody would if you expect it to be perfect. When you miss a throw, miss something easy that you know you can make, the biggest thing is you just have to bounce back."
Despite head coach Mike Mularkey saying there wasn't a "competition", the second-year quarterback is approaching the situation the right way by acting like there is one.
"If you don't go out there and compete in every aspect of your life - your football life, I should say - in the weight room, in the film room, on the football field, you're not going to be successful," Gabbert said. "You know somebody, somewhere is busting their tail harder than you."
