Ok, here is my take on Justin Blackmon and Gene Smith. Months leading up to the draft i studied almost every prospect projected to go within 30 picks of the 1st round and Blackmon was never my favorite for the 7 pick (Alfie Crow would understand :)), because of st. louis at 6 and other preconceived observations. Now, understanding that gene has only taken 1 player in the 1st and 2nd rounds that was less then 250 pounds (Blaine Gabbert), I never thought he was going to break the trend.

Now after the pick i went back and thought very hard why we did this and then it hit me...Gene is a GENIUS! Justin Blackmon may not be Larry Fitzgerald or Calvin Johnson one day, but what is most important is that he fits almost magically with what the jaguars are turning into (progressively). Mike Mularkey ran a quick pass and run first type of offense in Atlanta. Justin Blackmon runs the quick slant better than any non slot WR prospect in a very long time. the comparison was to Jimmy Smith size and speed, now we all know he did well. The media and the fans wanted this relationship to happen. Jaguars wanted it to happen and the Rams couldnt pick up on it in time( sneaky sneaky jags). Gene picks up a new qb coach, new quick style (Gabbert) run first (MJD) offensive coach, and wr coach that coached the best in the league. Did Gene want this pick all along? Did Gene understand what his plan was all the way back from February? I went from not liking the pick to thinking it is a milestone for the new jaguars future.

-P.S. First post so don't stone me :)
