Because you have no idea what you're talking about. All you know is the Jaguars franchised him, and he doesn't want to sign the one-year contract reportedly worth about $2.8 million.
I read a lot of people saying "just sign him to a long-term contract already" or alternatively, the old standby,"fire Gene Smith." My guess is Gene Smith is aware of the existence of long-term contracts, and most likely offered one for Scobee's signature.
The devil is in the details
How much was the offered contract worth? You don't know.
For how many years? You don't know.
How big a signing bonus? You don't know.
How much was Scobee's asking for? You don't know.
For how many years? You don't know.
How big a signing bonus does he want? You don't know.
"Just give him what he wants." Really? What if the demand is unreasonable? "It's not." Really? How do you know?
Vic used to say, "It's professional football. It's all about the money." We learned that had lesson years ago when we had to let arguably our greatest player ever go to a division rival because we didn't know how to properly handle the finances of a professional football team.
Take a look around the league and see which teams are successful. They spend wisely, letting established stars, even fan favorites walk.
It's nice to have expression of opinions. Let's keep it realistic, though.
