Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Rashean Mathis was off to a great start last season, but it was abruptly ended when he tore his ACL against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 10. By all reports thus far this offseason, Mathis is well ahead of schedule and was hoping to get back on the field by the start of training camp, as he's been sitting out the Jaguars OTAs so far.
Mathis got some good news. The long time cornerback was medically cleared to return to practice by Dr. James Andrews on Monday.
"I did some jumps and stuff at the Andrews Institute (in Gulf Breeze)," Mathis told The Daytona Beach News-Journal at the Jaguars caravan stop in Port Orange. "He yanked and pulled on my knee and said everything is looking great, just keep strengthening the knee.
"I'm sure we're going to take things slow, because we still have a few months before the actual season starts, but he has cleared me to participate with the team."
