With Jon's selection of Derek Cox in the second round of our flag football draft, I believe he got the best defensive back available. With that said, I believe the drop off in play between Cox and another Jaguars cornerback is not that much and makes that player worth my third selection.
The former Pro Bowler has been the best cornerback on the Jaguars for much of the last decade and is arguably the best defensive back in franchise history. However, at 31 and coming off ACL surgery, the selection of Cox before him makes sense.
If healthy, though, Mathis provides my team with a top flight corner to combat whichever receiver Jon chooses to match up against him.
Would Mathis make for a good receiver? I'm inclined to think he wouldn't, but with 30 career interceptions, it is clear that Mathis can catch a ball. Hopefully he catches several from Gabbert and picks off Zach Miller once or twice come game time.
