Take A Deep Breath

Lots of folks blowing up twitter with how awful the Jaguars offense looks today. We need to keep a little perspective.

With a new system on offense and primary pieces missing, it is going to take longer than three days of camp to have the Jaguars offense bloom into "The Greatest Show Not In a Practice Bubble." Expecting a green QB to come in and torch a very good defense is a slap in the face to the defense. It is understandable that people want the offense to show vast improvement over last year but it is a little early in camp season to begin looking to dump Blaine and Chad for a late round pick in next year's draft.

Building the foundation is what the Jaguars should be focusing on right now. There is no need to be in mid-season form in the infant stages of camp. There is time to improve. There is time to get better. If the offense can get to just a middle-of-the-road quality, the win total from last year could double. The Defense preformed well while inheriting terrible field position a majority of the time. Having the 29th ranked punt net doesn't help a defense dig in it heels. When the defense has very little room to operate, they are going to give up points. When they are constantly back on the field after three and outs, they will get worn down.

Anger should help with the field position issues.

The, hopefully, improved offense will help with that as well.

With a slightly better offense and a drastically better punt game, the defense will be more rested which could and should result in their improvement as a unit.

This early in camp, I would rather the defense look sharp and challenge the offense than have Blaine zipping the ball around the field against practice squad guys. He needs to have hands in his face, to be hurried, to feel the heat of Pot Roast.

The offense wont be as bad as it was last year. It could be much better. It wont put up New England or New Orleans type numbers, but it will keep us competitive. And if it doesn't, the games should still be close.

Defense and Special teams. At least we seem good on those fronts.
