Derek Cox Injury: Jaguars CB Out 'At Least 2 Games'

Stay connected for news and updates

The Jacksonville Jaguars got hit with a few injuries in their first preseason game on Friday evening against the New York Giants. Veteran cornerback Derek Cox left the game with a leg injury and head coach Mike Mularkey revealed on Sunday after practice that Cox will miss at least the next two games.

"Derek Cox is going to miss a couple games here," Mularkey said on Sunday. "At least two games. His hamstring."

Cox is coming off injured reserve, missing much of the 2011 NFL season, so it could just be the Jaguars being extra cautious with their rash of injuries as of late. Cornerback Rashean Mathis dressed but did not play on Friday against the Giants, but with Leigh Torrence suffering a concussion as well as Cox being out, Mathis could be pressed into preseason action earlier than anticipated.

The real problem are hamstrings tend to be an injury that can "linger" so it's best the Jaguars don't rush Cox back.
