The Jaguars voted for team captains on Monday and second year quarterback Blaine Gabbert was one of two players to earn the honor. Nearly a year ago today, it struck many as odd that quarterback David Garrard was not named a team captain as he had been in years past, but a quarterback will again wear the badge in 2012 for the Jaguars.

However, one player that did not earn the honor for the 2012 team was running back Maurice Jones-Drew after a lengthy holdout that finally came to a conclusion on Sunday. Instead the second captain is center Brad Meester, the longest tenured Jaguars player, entering season 13 with the team.

Defensively, linebackers Daryl Smith and Paul Posluszny earned team captain honors, while Montell Owens retained his title as special teams captain.

Marcedes Lewis was the other offensive captain with Jones-Drew during the 2011 season and did not earn the title again in 2012, while Aaron Kampman was the defensive captain with Smith last season.
