US PRESSWIRE

Atlanta Falcons special teams coordinator Keith Armstrong is reportedly a candidate for the Jacksonville Jaguars head coaching position.

Jacksonville Jaguars general manager David Caldwell is beginning his head coaching search after dismissing Mike Mularkey. One name that has cropped up in the search is Atlanta Falcons special teams coordinator Keith Armstrong, who Caldwell is very familiar with.

Armstrong, 47, has been with the Atlanta Falcons since 2008 as their special teams coordinator. Prior to working with the Falcons he spent eight seasons as the Miami Dolphins special teams coordinator and four seasons as the Chicago Bears special teams coordinator. Armstrong also has experience coaching defensive backs early in his NFL career with the Falcons from 1994 to 1996.

A college football player at Temple, Armstrong is also reportedly a candidate for the Chicago Bears and is African-American, meaning he would fulfill the Rooney Rule if he's not hired as the Jaguars. The Falcons are in the NFL Playoffs still however, so he could not interview with a team until the Falcons are eliminated or during the bye week leading up to the Super Bowl.
