I wanted to share my latest 2013 NFL Mock Draft , by breaking down my reasoning behind my selections for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Feedback is welcome!
1st Round: OLB Jarvis Jones, Georgia
-The lack of a pass rush in Jacksonville has just killed their defensive effectiveness, and has to be a major target this offseason. Jones has that elite potential, and could play a role similar to Von Miller if Jacksonville stays with a 4-3 attack. He should automatically be the Jaguars best pass rusher, and help make the rest of their front seven that much better.
2nd Round: RB Monte Ball, Wisconsin:
-This may seem like an odd pick, but whomever is lining up behind center next year, he's going to need a lot of support from his running game. Maurice Jones-Drew is great, but Jacksonville needs better depth and could even consider trading Jones-Drew since he's in the final year of his contract. Ball would give Jacksonville a young talented RB, and help boost this rushing attack.
3rd Round: OL Kyle Long, Oregon:
-The only offensive lineman the Jaguars can really count on is Eugene Monroe, making this a priority need for Jacksonville. Long is a bit raw, but he's got great upside and should be a favorite to start as a rookie at either guard or RT.
4th Round: LB Nico Johnson, Alabama:
-Johnson is a good two down linebacker, who could play on the strongside or more likely at the middle spot. He's not the best in coverage, but should give them a nice run stopper.
5th Round: C Mario Benavides, Louisville:
-Benavides is one of the better members of a weak center class. He may not start right off the bat, but definitely has some potential for the future.
6th Round: LB Travis Long, Washington State:
-The LB depth for the Jaguars is extremely weak, Long should be able to help out on special teams as well as situational pass rushing early in his career.
7th Round: CB Mike Edwards, Hawaii:
Defensive back-field depth is an issue, and Edwards is a guy with a little promise.
