Jaguars coaching search: Chip Kelly, Marc Trestman hires leave Jacksonville's choices wide open

Jonathan Ferrey

The Jaguars may be the last team to hire a head coach in 2013 and it doesn't appear to have hurt their list of candidates.

The Jaguars are just one of two teams without a head coach, as only the Arizona Cardinals are still in the hunt for a head coach. Considering the deliberation that has become synonymous with Jaguars owner Shahid Khan and appears to be the same standard operating procedure for new general manager Dave Caldwell, it's not at all hard to imagine that the Jaguars will be the last ones to choose their head coach.

Yet despite waiting until the after every other team to hire a coach, the Jaguars list of candidates have gone largely untouched. With the exception of Mike McCoy's hiring in San Diego, the Eagles, Bears and Chiefs all hired coaches that were reportedly not on the Jaguars radar. Yes, Andy Reid was hired before the Jaguars fired Mike Mularkey, but he clashes with the idea of renewal and youth that the team have seemingly taken.

Instead the Jaguars will essentially have their choice of coaches and can wait until next week if they'd like to interview assistants from the 49ers or Falcons like Greg Roman, Vic Fangio, Jim Tomsula and Keith Armstrong.

Among the candidates that the Jaguars now have the opportunity to look as well is Seahawks defensive coordinator Gus Bradley. Had Kelly not been a surprise hire by the Eagles on Wednesday, Bradley would've been the team's choice, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. Instead Bradley will spend his day Wednesday speaking with the Jaguars about their head coaching vacancy.
