In a mock draft from Eric Galko of Optimum Scouting, the Jaguars make a surprising selection at second overall.
With the offseason officially underway for 20 teams, the 2013 mock drafts are coming in waves with most sending the Chiefs a quarterback. In the event that the Chiefs elect not to take a quarterback, the Jaguars are certainly in need of the position as well, but Eric Galko of Optimum Scouting doesn't have a QB off the board until the third pick in his mock draft.
Instead it was Florida State defensive end Bjoern Werner off the board with the first overall selection, leaving the Jaguars with plenty of options with the second overall selection.
2. Jacksonville Jaguars - Sheldon Richardson, DT, Missouri (Declared Article)
Adding to the defensive line (in particular, at DT) seems like the most logical move for the Jaguars, and fills a major need with Tyson Alualu being solid but not spectacular this year. Richardson is our top rated DT prospect, and showcases a fantastic motor, interior strength, and active pass rush ability. Similar to the Chiefs plan, attacking free agency/the 2nd round for a quarterback may be the wise decision in year one of a potential "rebuild" once again.
Most have Utah's Star Lotulelei as the top-rated defensive tackle in the draft class with Richardson as the second defensive tackle in the class. However, with four months left until draft day in late April, it's needless to say that rankings and mocks will certainly change.
Richardson was on the media's All-SEC first team in 2012 with 10.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, seven quarterback hurries and three forced fumbles.
