2013 NFL Draft Player Comparisons: Installment I

I announced earlier this week that I would be making this into a series. Here's how I'm going to break this into several installments:

QB, RB, FB, WR, TE, OT, OG, C, DE, DT, OLB, ILB, CB, FS, SS, K, P, LS

I am going to do them by position, starting with QB.

Each installment will feature two players (at least that is my intent).

So, let's get on with Installment I:

Geno Smith vs. Matt Barkley

Geno Smith:

Position: QB

Position Rank: 1

Prospect Rank: 14

Hight: 6’3”

Weight: 220 Lbs

40 Yard Dash: 4.87 Seconds

School: West Virginia

Pros: Mobile, Good Pocket Presence, can shred defenses, even some of the best defenses.

Cons: Works mainly out of the Shotgun, inconsistent set-up as well as delivery, often throws off of his back foot, only average accuracy at this time on deeper routes, especially the ones that require touch. Geno Wmith also needs to work on a few mechanical issues, but most are fairly minor.

NFL QB Comparison: Donovan McNabb

Matt Barkley:

Position: QB

Position Rank: 2

Prospect Rank: 19

Height: 6’2”

Weight: 230 Lbs

40 Yard Dash: 4.84 Seconds

School: Southern California

Currently Injured

Pros: Barkley does many of the little things well, very good at roling left and to the right, fires accurate passes on the run, freezes the Safeties by looking one direction and passing towards to other direction, mobile, accurate, and incredibly poised in the pocket. Barkley also has greater zip than expected.

Cons: Size (6’2”), “average” arm strength, has never faced SEC competition.

NFL QB Comparison: Chad Pennington

Let me know what y'all think!

NOTE: I know this will start conversations about the Pro comparisons. Some may be wrong, but if they are, I'll fix it.
