In the wake of the announcement of the making of a seven Star Wars movie I was reminded of the title of the movie that began one of the greatest and strongest fan following in movie history. A New Hope, a name that rings particularly true in the ears of all true Jaguar fans.
First, we have Shad Khan taking over for Wayne Weaver, now we have David Caldwell and Gus Bradley replacing the last remaining relics of the old regime, Gene Smith and Mike Mularkley. Much attention has been given to the hiring of Caldwell and Bradley, as it rightly should, in re-shaping and re-making the Jaguars. As Alfie has said repetitively on BCC and Twitter (twits that's for sure), we all must be patient in the rebuilding of this once competitive franchise.
Will there be a massive turn about in a single season probably not, even though we all will be hoping for it. The words that ring truest come from Coach Bradley in that the Jaguars need to work on improving and playing better football and the rest will follow.
There is one thing that we all need to get ready for and that is the potential gutting of the roster, including some fan favourites like Daryl Smith and Brad Meester. However, the old must be thrown again to make room for the new, and the crappy players (Britton) must be flushed away to start a fresh.
To end with quote from another amazing trilogy, the night is always darkest before the dawn (Batman: The Dark Knight). Let us all hope that the dawn is near and Khan/Caldwell/Bradley are the new hope the Jaguars are in need of.
