The Jaguars are set to hire David Caldwell to be their new general manager, according to report.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are working to hire David Caldwell as their new general manager, according to a report by Jay Glazer of Fox Sports, the two sides are just working out contract details. Caldwell was initially interviewed by the Jaguars the Monday following the Jaguars firing general manager Gene Smith. Caldwell reported blew the Jaguars away and met with the team again at the facility to check things out.

Caldwell will be just the second general manager in franchise history, following Gene Smith. Caldwell spent the past four seasons as the Falcons Director of College Scouting, assisting in the drafting of players such as Matt Ryan, William Moore, Sean Weatherspoon, Thomas DeCoud, Kroy Beirman, and Julio Jones. Caldwell was promoted to Director of Player Personnel in 2012, working closely with Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff in day-to-day analysis of the Falcons roster.

The next decision for the Jaguars to make will be the fate of head coach Mike Mularkey and if he will be retained or not. There have been reports that Caldwell would like to bring on San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman.
