Justin Blackmon trade rumors: Jaguars WR unlikely to be dealt

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

There's no reason why the winless Jaguars wouldn't at least answer the phone if a team calls for Justin Blackmon, but don't count on a deal being made.

Less than a week remains until the NFL trade deadline and many are speculating about players that could be moved. Among those providing speculation was former Kansas City Chiefs GM Scott Pioli, who said on Tuesday night's Pro Football Talk that Jaguars receiver Justin Blackmon is a player that makes sense to try and move.

From an outside perspective, the logic isn't all that unsound. After receiving a four-game suspension from the NFL for violation of the league's substance abuse policy, Blackmon is another mistake away from sitting out an entire season. That kind of baggage brings high risk for any team and may be a better situation for a playoff-bound team willing to take a chance for high reward.

But that's the problem for the Jaguars: Blackmon presents too high of a reward. His impact on the Jacksonville offense is obvious as the team tallied an average of 224 yards per game in his absence and has yet to be held to under 350 yards of total offense since his return.

Arguably the team's best player right now, a deal to send away Blackmon would be surprising, especially considering his contributions and seemingly renewed focus in 2013.

However, every player has a price. Don't kid yourself, any player can be acquired by any team if they are willing to offer a crazy enough amount of draft capital. What's that number for Blackmon? It's hard to say, but there's no reason for the 0-7 Jaguars to at least answer the phone.

Would a first-round pick be enough to pull away a former first rounder who's a mistake away from a year-long suspension? It's not out of the realm of possibility, but don't count on it happening.

The NFL trade deadline is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29.
