Poor Matt Flynn. It seems that the guy has been a backup all of his life. It seems that every quarterback he plays with outmatches him in every physical aspect. It also seems, that he has been released by the Oakland Raiders after tumbling all the way down to 3rd string on the depth chart. During his 5 years at LSU he was a backup to former #1 pick Jamarcus Russell. The only year he started was as a 5th year senior during his tenure at LSU, where he actually won a National Championship.
Flynn was then drafted in the 7th round and beat out 2nd round pick Brian Brohm for the back up spot behind Mr. Discount Double Check, Aaron Rodgers. Flynn played exceptional when Aaron Rodgers was injured. Flynn completed 23 of 37 passes for 254 yards in a loss to the New England Patriots. He then went berserk against the Detroit Lions and lit them for 480 yards and 6 passing touchdowns, each statistic is a all-time record for the Packers. The Lions defense isn't very good, but that's pretty darn impressive.
Then came the Seahawks, signing Flynn to a deal worth 3 year, 19.5 million. Then came 3rd round pick Russell Wilson, who beat Flynn for Seattle's starting job. Now that's a lot of dough for a backup quarterback. Luckily for the Seahawks they got a 2014 5th round pick and dumped all of the money off in Oakland. Now look where he is now. Now homeless, his former defensive coordinator Gus Bradley has come out and said that the Jags have "No interest." On the bright side, Flynn is married to Miss Louisiana (Now Mrs) and has a lot of money in the bank. Pretty solid for a backup quarterback.
And just for the fun of it I'll list out all of the quarterback that Matt Flynn has played with that is better than him: Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, Terrell Pryor, Jamarcus Russell, Matt McGloin, Marcus Randall. Maybe it's time to retire?
