Bills vs. Jaguars: Analyzing snap counts (defense)

Sam Greenwood

Taking a look at the defensive snap counts for the Jaguars against the Buffalo Bills.

Defensive tackle
Sen'Derrick Marks Roy Miller Abry Jones
81%
62/77 plays
71%
55/77 plays
26%
20/77 plays

Thoughts: Against the Buffalo Bills this week, it appears Miller saw the most amount of snaps he's seen this year, by a pretty good margin. That could mean he's finally getting over the knee and shoulder issues that he's been dealing with all season.

LEO/Defensive end
Jason Babin Tyson Alualu Andre Branch
Ryan Davis
68%
52/77 plays
86%
66/77 plays
55%
42/77 plays
14%
11/77 plays

Thoughts: It did not appear like the Jaguars went to the "lightning package" well nearly as much as they did the week prior and the snap counts kind of bear that out. Ryan Davis' snaps went down, but he was still a noticeable contributor.

Linebacker
Paul Posluszny Russell Allen Geno Hayes John Lotulelei
JT Thomas
100%
77/77 plays
58%
45/77 plays
70%
54/77 plays
23%
18/77 plays
20%
15/77 plays

Thoughts: Each week it appears as if Lotulelei's snaps increase. Some of the linebackers got a little dinged up in the game, but it appears that Gus Bradley and Bob Babich are comfortable with the backups they have currently.

Cornerback
Dwayne Gratz Alan Ball Will Blackmon Mike Harris
95%
73/77 plays
99%
76/77 plays
14%
11/77 plays
17%
13/77 plays

Thoughts: It seemed like the Jaguars played more to stop the run on Sunday that anything else and the lack of snaps for Blackmon and Harris kind of show how little they were in traditional nickel back sets.

Safety
Josh Evans Winston Guy Chris Prosinski
39%
30/77 plays
83%
64/77 plays
79%
61/77 plays

Thoughts: Last week the Jaguars were without Josh Evans, this week they were without Jonathan Cyprien and Evans working back from injury. Chris Prosinski saw extended playing time and all it really did was affirm that he's much more suited as a special teams player than a base defensive player. He graded out poorly in run support by PFF and led the team in missed tackles.
