We know for sure that the Jaguars are drafting at position number 3, which gives us our first opportunity to really begin to pick this draft apart.
I've enjoyed looking at the different mock drafts which have been posted on here, and it seems like a lot of people are leaning toward Jadaveon Clowney at #3 and then a QB in the second round.
With that being said, I'd like to open up the discussion of taking a QB versus Clowney at #3. In order to do so, let me throw my assumptions out there, knowing these assumptions can rapidly be proven wrong:
- The Texans take Teddy Bridgewater (or their highest rated QB) at number 1.
- The Rams take Matthews, and don't trade the pick.
- Therefore, Clowney is available.
Obviously, we don't know what we don't know. :) The Rams could trade the pick. The Texans could sign a QB like Cutler, and Teddy is available. But I'm basing my question off of what we know now.
That being said, what would you rather do?
Take Clowney at #3, and hope a franchise QB is around in the second round (or later).
Take our pick of whoever is left at QB. If the Rams don't trade the pick, that means we probably have our choice between Bortles, Carr, Manziel, et al.
What do you think?
Personally, I'm torn. Nothing is settled long term for the Jags until they have their franchise QB. On the other hand, it would be tough to pass on Clowney. If, and it's a big if, the Jags can get a decent QB near the beginning of the second round, it could be the best of both worlds. If they don't, we could endure another season (or two) of Henne, or Henne-like play at the QB position.
So vote on what you'd prefer and then explain in the comments. And say who you'd prefer at QB while you're at it.
