Jags 2014 Offseason

I've been doing some thinking about what moves the Jaguars could and should make this offseason and here's what I've come up with. LB Nathan Bussey, OT Cameron Bradfield, DE/LB Larry Hart, CB Scotty McGee, TE Allen Reisner, and RB Jordan Todman are all Restricted Free Agents. The only players who are worthy of new contracts in my opinion are Reisner and Todman. Bradfield is someone I believe they let go initially and see what their O-Line depth is like in training camp. The Jags have four Exclusive-Rights Free Agents, FB Will Ta'ufo'ou, OT Austin Pasztor, DE Ryan Davis, and WR Mike Brown. If Davis keeps playing like he has, he's definitely coming back. Brown has been solid as well and depending on what happens with Blackmon, he may wear teal for a few more years. With Pasztor, I don't see a problem in keeping him if we let Bradfield go. Pasztor has played much, much better than Bradfield and has shown some flashes of being a solid RT. With Joeckel coming back, a full offseason and training camp at first-team RT could suit Pasztor well. Aside from MJD, there are 8 other Unrestricted Free Agents, CB Will Blackmon, DT Brandon Deadrick, TE Clay Harbor, QB Chad Henne, DT Sen'Derrick Marks, C Brad Meester, WR Taylor Price, and OT Sam Young. Without a doubt, I believe Dave needs to Re-Sign MJD, Blackmon, and Marks. I'd be surprised if they let Meester come back and I would put money on them letting Deadrick, Price, and Young hit the market. Harbor and Henne are different situations. I don't have a problem with three TE's on the roster in Lewis, Reisner, and Harbor--but, I'm not Gus Bradley either. Gabbert's salary in 2014 ($2,011,587) is roughly 25% more than his 2013 salary of $1,466,058. That being said, I don't see why we need to keep him because that would do is take-up a roster spot, I just don't know if Gus and Dave would want to take the cap penalty next year. If Gabbert walks, I believe Henne will stay. Mike Mayock said during the commentary Thursday night that Henne is a solid guy as a back-up QB and a great locker room guy but nothing more--and he's right about that. As far as free agency this is a great year to have $40 million in cap space as the Jags do. My number one area of concern is our interior offensive line. Meester shouldn't get re-signed and Rackley has to go. Chicago Bears C Alex Mack is a free agent and one I hope Dave Caldwell keeps an eye on. At Guard, there are several big names like Zane Beadles from Denver, Matt Slauson from Chicago, and Jon Asamoah from Kansas City. There are big names at OT too, Michael Oher, David Diehl, Winston Justice, Eric Winston, Tyson Clabo, and Brandon Albert. Aside from signing MJD, I wonder what it would take to get Greg Jones back. Other notable FA backs are John Kuhn, Ben Tate, Rashad Jennings, Toby Gerhart, and Tashard Choice. The real prize of Free Agency is at WR. Guys like Domenik Hixon, Jacoby Jones, Ted Ginn, Eric Decker, Robert Meachem, Jeremy Maclin, Golden Tate, and Doug Baldwin are available. I wonder who we target. We could use some help at DE and Seattle Seahawks DE Michael Bennett would be a great fit as would Carolina Panthers DE Greg Hardy or Minnesota Vikings DE Jared Allen. Vikings DT Kevin Williams and Buffalo Bills DT Alan Branch could fit nice at DT and replace Roy Miller who hasn't lived up to expectations. OLB Brian Orakpo would a nice addition to Poz and the linebacker corps. In the secondary, we need some help at CB and there are plenty of options on the market. More notably, Charles Tillman and Tim Jennings. They're two guys who make plays and help their team win games, something we could use. Captain Munnerlyn, Antoine Cason, Brent Grimes, Tracy Porter, and Mike Jenkins who the Jags targeted last year are all free agents. Then again, there's always Nnamdi Asomugha lol. If we can take care of the interior offensive line and add few upgrades at CB/DE, then I think our first three draft picks go something like this: 1st Round Pick: Clemson WR Sammy Watkins 2nd Round Pick: Alabama QB AJ McCarron 3rd Round Pick: Oregon RB De'Anthony Thomas Thoughts?
