NFL Mock Draft 2013: Barkevious Mingo to the Jaguars

Derick E. Hingle-US PRESSWIRE

Barkevious Mingo seems to fit the role of the LEO position in Gus Bradley's defensive scheme.

The Jacksonville Jaguars hold the No. 2 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft and can virtually pick whoever they want, depending on who the Kansas City Chiefs pick. The popular opinion is that the Jaguars will be looking to draft a pass rusher in the first round, which would make a ton of sense as they've struggled getting to the quarterback for almost a decade. If Gus Bradley is going to employ the same style of defense he did in Seattle, he can go ahead and pick up his LEO pass rusher with LSU defensive end Barkevious "KeKe" Mingo.

In Mocking The Draft's latest 2013 NFL mock draft, the Jaguars get Mingo.

2. Jacksonville Jaguars - Barkevious Mingo, Defensive End, LSU

The Jaguars' pass rush has been a sore spot for quite some time. Barkevious Mingo would be a huge upgrade for a defense in need of playmakers. New coach Gus Bradley will need some pieces for his defense, and Mingo would make an ideal LEO in Jacksonville. He is a lengthy pass rusher with incredible burst off the snap.

I've written about it before, but I think this would be a solid pick for the Jaguars at No. 2 overall if they're stuck there. Mingo is the most explosive pass rusher in the draft and even if he's not an every down player as a rookie, he can fill the same type of role that Bruce Irvin did for the Seattle Seahawks as a "designated pass rusher" (yes, yes I know) and be a disruptor on passing downs as the LEO or as a stand up pass rusher.
