Broncos sign Terrance Knighton, according to report

Grant Halverson

Terrance Knighton was drafted by the Jaguars in the third round of the 2009 NFL Draft.

The Denver Broncos have signed defensive tackle Terrance Knighton, according to a report by Mike Klis of the Denver Post. Knighton, 26, was originally a third-round pick by the Jaguars in 2009 and immediately made an impact on the field as a rookie, earning a starting role.

During his tenure with the Jaguars in his early career, Knighton seemed to struggle coming into training camp overweight and often would fade late in the season, so that will need to be something that the Denver Broncos make sure to stay on top of.

Prior to the start of the 2012 NFL season, Knighton was involved in an off the field incident which led to significant damage being done to his eye, sidelining him until the start of training camp. Knighton came in in the best shape of his career, but wound up losing his starting job in Week 4 and never regained it.

Heading to Denver, Knighton re-unites with his former head coach, Jack Del Rio, who is the Broncos defensive coordinator.

Knighton's contract is for two-years and $4.5 million.
