Hey guys I am back with another mock draft that will be a drastic change from my previous one around 4 months ago. Lets get to it!
1st Round- Geno Smith QB WVU- The first time the possibility of the Jags drafting Geno Smith crossed my mind I didn't know what to think. As I continued to watch Smith's cut-ups I saw a comfortable passer in the pocket who had the agility to avoid incoming pass rushers. Not to mention that beautiful, beautiful deep ball. I have to say after I watched his film, I could envision him leading us to winning season after winnning season. The new regime is not tied to Blaine in any way and could be looking for their own guy. I think if they are Geno is the man.
2nd Round- Tank Carradine DE/Whatver you want Gus FSU- I must say its a reach for Tank to be here. If not for an ACL injury vs Florida in the last game of the regular season Tank might be the Jags pick at 2. The JUCO transfer is crazy strong and agile for his 6-4 276 frame and would provide the Jags with some major help at pass rush. I honestly prefer him over Bjoenr Werner and getting him here would be a steal thanks to his aformentioned injury.
3rd Round- Jamie Collins OLB USM- Collins performance at the Combine forced me to go watch film. As I was opening my computer, I was thinking he will probably be another coming warrior that didn't play up to expectations in college. Boy was I wrong. Collins showed a nose for the ball and shows power/speed. His first step is tremendous when pinning his ears back and attacking the QB. Collins will need to improve a little on pass coverage, but I believe he fits as a 3 down outiside linebacker.
4th Round- Blidi Wreh-Wilson CB UCONN- The 6'1 corner with 32 inch arms sounds like a Bradley style corner. With the arm length needed to be effective in the Jags new D Wreh-WIlson seems like a logical pick in the 4th round. The Jags will be lacking corners come free agency since Cox is a free agent and I don't expect Caldwell to sign 2 in free agency. Even if he does, corner depth is still needed.
5th Round- Zac Stacy RB Vanderbilt- Hooray for offense. After Geno and 3 defensive players the Jags select a dependable running back. After a 1141 yard season at Vandy, I think Stacy will be a good piece for the Jags to have in their backfield. With MJD wearing down and Jennings hitting free agency, I think Stacy could come in and be productive in the carries he recieves.
6th Round- Denard Robinson WR West Virginia- Speed, Speed, Speed. D-Rob isn't polished by any means at the WR position, but getting an athlete of his caliber in the 6th round is a steal. Let Sullivan mold him and ease him into the slot with Blackmon and Shorts playing X and Z.
7th Round- Gilbert Pena NT Ole Miss- With the unkwown situation at nose tackle with Pot Roast becoming a free agent I think nose tackle is emerging as a minor need for the Jaguars
. Pena does exactly what a nose tackle does in occupying multiple blockers and allowing his surrounding teammates make plays. Pena had 6.5 TFL in 2012 which isn't exactly a bad number.
