Matt Flynn trade to Oakland Raiders 'imminent,' according to report

Justin Edmonds

While the Jaguars explored the possibility of a trade for Matt Flynn, it was another team that acquired the Seahawks quarterback.

A trade between the Seattle Seahawks and Oakland Raiders that would send backup quarterback Matt Flynn to Oakland is imminent, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, putting to rest any lingering possibility that the Jaguars could make a trade for the veteran.

While the Jaguars were not involved in the trade, they previously explored the possibility of the trade, and decided to look elsewhere to address their need for competition at quarterback. Regardless, the trade that satisfies the Raiders need for a quarterback can negatively affect the Jaguars in the draft.

Owners of the second pick, the Jaguars market for the second pick may now be hurt by the fact that the Raiders, owners of the third pick, no longer have a need at quarterback. Teams like the Cleveland Browns, Buffalo Bills or Arizona Cardinals would no longer need to jump ahead of the Raiders to secure their chance at West Virginia's Geno Smith.

Flynn, 27, has just two career starts in his five seasons in the NFL, both with the Green Bay Packers, but looked brilliant in one, throwing for 480 yards and six touchdowns against the Detroit Lions in 2011 before receiving a three-year, $19.5 million contract from the Seahawks. Terms of the trade with the Raiders have not yet been reported.
