A perspective of the Tebow Issue you may not have thought about....

Let me first say this isn't an anti or pro Tebow article. This is an article about how the media circus that surrounds him has helped the Jaguars. Ok, so you're, "how in the world has all of that craziness helped the Jaguars?" Well, in a word, exposure. That has been the one thing this franchise and to an extent, this city has lacked, since the inception of the Jaguars. Sure, many can say we went 14-2 in 1999, but that was before this media explosion of twitter, facebook and the blogsphere amongst many others. That's a big problem in this day and age. We truly have not been a relevant team in this social media era and hence all of the negative comments and views of the team. Hell, the traditional scrubs of the NFL (Detroit, Cincincati, New Orleans) have had something that drew attention to them (Stafford + Megatron's recent seasons or traditional Thanksgiving home games for the Lions, making the playoffs a few seasons in a row for the Bengals, or finally winning the Super Bowl for the Saints after Hurrican Katrina). We need exposure.

MJD? What about that guy? He only led the league in rushing a mere season ago. Well guess what, unless you're breaking 2,000 yards (or a hardcore FF player), no one cares about a running back. It's all about the QB. We've all seen it's a passing league now, hence that season simply isn't enough. We needed something else to bring exposure to our beloved Jaguars. That exposure has come in the form of Tebow mania or TM.

Before TM, we had journalists, bloggers, the media all talking negative about our franchise and our fanbase. Not only was it negative, it was ill-informed. We've all read it. We've all lived it. We're all tired of it. And now we've responded! That's the key: our response. We had a catalyst to force us to respond to the growing misinformation spread about our franchise. We've stood united in the face of this adversity. We've had the BCB tighten their bootstraps and ask the fanbase to Stand United with the front office of the Jaguars. We've had our fans get interviewed to gain perspectives. We've had celebrities, many misinformed, chime in with their thoughts. They are dropping the name of our team, our city. They are researching the history of the Jaguars, coming to our fan run websites. We are changing minds, forcing the media to take notice that Jacksonville is a National Football League city and we have a franchise that won't simply rest on its laurels of being in that elite club. With all of the TM, the media has to finally research their 'facts' about our franchise to present the counterpoint to everyone saying he belongs here. They may not always present that side, but they're having to do it.

We have an owner who has said all of the right things to get exposure to his team while not bringing TM here directly. We have a GM and a coach who are about as well respected, albeit on potential, as any other in the league. We have a new logo on a new uniform. A new face of the franchise in Joeckel, much like Boselli was 18 years ago when we were at our height. We have the future ahead of us and it is bright. Thanks to TM, others are seeing this and are rising to Stand United, more united than we have ever been. We are Jaguars. This is our roar. This is our team. This is our city. We will stand united.
