Jordan Rodgers injury: Jaguars QB has surgery for sports hernia

USA TODAY Sports

Jacksonville Jaguars rookie quarterback Jordan Rodgers had surgery on Tuesday morning for a sports hernia, the team announced at the conclusion of OTA practices Tuesday afternoon. Rodgers injured his groin in the team's rookie mini-camp a few weeks ago and has now had surgery to repair the issue.

Rodgers will be out until at least the start of training camp, which puts him behind the pack in terms of making the Jaguars roster.

The Jaguars have an open competition at the quarterback position, though it was unlikely Rodgers would win the job. What Jordan's absence does do however is give more reps to his rookie counterpart Matt Scott, who was also signed as an undrafted free agent following the 2013 NFL Draft.

It is unknown if the Jaguars will attempt to sign another quarterback to stand in while Rodgers is recovering.
