Maurice Jones-Drew injury: Jaguars RB in Miami rehabbing with foot specialist

USA TODAY Sports

Jones-Drew is expected to begin running on his surgically repaired foot soon.

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew will not be with the team for the next two weeks, as he will be spending time with a foot specialist in Miami instead of participating in OTAs. Jones-Drew is continuing to rehab an injury that required surgery to repair and cost him the last 10 games of the 2013 regular season.

Jones-Drew, 28, revealed in February that he had a broken bone in his foot, but did not have surgery to repair the injury until December, although the injury was suffered in October. Previously relegated to a boot, Jones-Drew had the boot removed in March, but hasn't been able to run yet; however, he should be able to soon, according to Mark Long of the Associated Press.

A three-time Pro Bowl selection, Jones-Drew is entering the final season of a five-year contract he signed in April 2009. After leading the NFL in rushing in 2011, Jones-Drew held out for the majority of the 2012 offseason, but did not receive a contract from the team, headed by general manager Gene Smith at the time.

In seven seasons with the Jaguars, Jones-Drew has accumulated 7,268 yards rushing and 63 rushing touchdowns, along with 11 touchdown receptions.
